You may not have to be concerned with it for a while. As I write, it looks increasing likely that there will be a Government shutdown in the U.S.
.............. and at 1230 hrs today the shut down began. A measure was taken to ensure that the military carry on as normal and will still be paid, but millions of others have been sent home, or told to stay at home. On a bright note, (if you're not American), the dollar starts to struggle and, as the peso is linked to the dollar, the exchange rates for pounds, Oz dollars and euros improves.
This may not seem to be the right thread to speak of exchange rates, but it is directly connected to the Obamacare controversy in the U.S. Although fluctuating, the current rates from Forex are :- 1 pound = 70.37 peso 1 Euro = 58.68 peso 1 US $ = 43.31 peso 1 Oz $ = 40.63 peso 1 pound = US$1-63 1 Euro = US$1-35 1 Oz$ = US$0.93
I'll take a bet and say that the house and senate will also be collecting their salaries as well. I'm sure the shutdown will not last long.
I'm sure you're right, they will have covered their butt first. It seems that essential services like the fire department, police, hospitals, air traffic control etc. are carrying on as normal. Naturally the shut down can't go on ad infinitum, but while it is in place it creates a financial mini-tsunami amongst the world markets.
I do believe it was mostly the younger generation that voted people like Obummer in. So you may want to thank your own generation. Plus son, I and my employers paid into S.S. for 51 years straight, never drew unemployment. Don't you think I should get something back ? So, your turn to straighten out your politicians.
Moderators, could you please close this thread, I only asked a question, and it has been answered. There is absolutely no need for this political mud-slinging to continue, "Can't we just all get along?" We are all neighbors here in this city.
It was the older generation (now mostly deceased) that created the SS system then made babies like rabbits (baby boomers) so the system could not possibly stay afloat, that is the root cause of today's problems with the SS system. While I feel you should be able to collect on your 51 years, I also feel I should be able to collect on my 25 years, but it ain't likely gonna happen! Today's youth currently have a bleak future outlook that is not of their own making. Their only chance is to kick out the current administration and start fresh, but that's going to be pretty hard to do... Larry
Yep, what he said ... I paid into SS for 47 years and my employers matched it .. My "entitlement" should start next August.
