Once again, congratulations to my British friends here for their Queen's pomp and circumstance in welcoming President Obamma to Buckingham Palace for a state visit. The Royal Band played beautifully 'The Star Spangled Banner'. CNN is broadcasting the visit.
Given the world such as it is today, it is IMHO a great relationship between the two democratic powers and hopefully their teaming to fight and eliminate terrorism will make the world a safer place to live in.
    Peace on Earth

John, CNN indicated they were invited to the Royal Wedding, but didn't attend. Not that I give a crapola...

Thanks for the accolade Pat. I havn't seen the TV footage yet but I've read the on line reports. Apparently the President and the First Lady were also wowed by the newly wed Royal couple. Because of their status, the President would have been given the full state visit compliment; i.e. the red carpet, the full guard of honour and the massed band. On a brief note, there is no Royal band as such. The band would have been from the Brigade of Guards, who, along with the mounted troops of the Household Cavalry, form the Sovereigns Escort. (There are five Regiments in the Brigade of Guards; they are the ones in scarlet tunics and black bearskins). As one who was involved in the ceremonial side of the business in London for a number of years, I can assure you that hours and hours of practice are put in before the event, so that it is pin-point precision on the day. Our military is steeped in history, and because of that there is a corresponding amount of tradition. But when it comes to the pageantry, the colour, the traditions and the dignified ceremonial, well, as Carly Simon told the world, "No-body does it better"................
