This is an important issue for individuals and Nations - whether the opinions are based on fact (seeing with one's own eyes, especially if over a period of time) or research, they contribute to the debate.

I notice some members don't like debates when there are many opinions, but that is exactly what makes a good debate. We may never all agree but we at least use our brains to think and may modify our lives in some respect(s). Nothing about that can be considered bad, pointless or a waste of time.

It does not apply to this thread, but I have also observed some members who post virtually zilch come here with one post just to complain about others posting and having discussions. Some call it a 'pissing match'. Such members should contribute more if they don't like what they read or, just stop reading those posts that make them annoyed.

    Let free discussion continue.

Being "skinny fat" (a metabolically obese normal weight) can come from a poor/malnourished diet. A morbidly obese person can also be malnourished. They aren't opposite ends of the spectrum.

Having just read the o/p on Obesity.......and parts of the other pages.
My experience on my visits tells me there are two major reasons for obesity, amongst Rich n Poor Filipino's.
The rich tend to eat what they like, when they like, while those less fortunate tend to eat what fills their bellies as cheap as possible and in both cases not necessarily healthy.
It also seems to be a status thing to have overweight children!
Sadly those without incomes eat little and less often and remain undernourished and thin.......just a observation....JB

yeah, gravy i make at home is part of my regular diet plan, lol. love it made with tuna on toast.

but biscuits no way. no oven. tried to make in cast iron pot but they are edible is all i could say about them. not sure the flour here is really suitable for baking anyway. i enjoy some of the breads available at why not et cet far more than anything i have made at home.

plus it all makes no sense for me to allow it to become an issue since weight control is my biggest personal battle!! but thanks for the ideas

After having been coming and going here since the 70's, I noticed the obesity in children and the proliferation of the fast food market. As the fast food became more available, so did the little chubby children.

Not sure if it is just me but on my Dog walking trips around my Barangay I have noticed that the Kids of all ages are most definitely putting on weight especially younger Kids. It is probably not a topic that can be discussed But with all the talk of Some poverty due to lack of Cash ( Due I am told No work) well it does seem to me that whatever cash is available is going on Feeding the Family but I wonder if it the right sort of Of Food because "Obesity" seems to be creeping in again especially with Kids of all ages :pompus:

Rice isn't the culprit. It is a grain no different than wheat. Yes, brown rice would be a bit healthier, just as whole wheat bread is better than white bread, but that is not the issue. I eat far more rice daily than most Filipinos could ever dream of (at least 300 grams of carbs a day) and my body fat levels are far lower than the average person. The issue is all the added sugars, fruit juices stripped of all their fiber and loaded with additional sugar, soft drinks (flavored sugar water), excessive alcohol and fast food consumption, prepackaged foods and, as you mentioned, a complete lack of physical activity...basically an adoption of the American diet and way of life. Calories (work) in vs calories (work) out is all that matters when it comes to weight loss or gain. Nobody can break the laws of thermodynamics. I don't care what a person eats, when a person eats, how many times a person eats per day, what a person's dietary macro breakdown is or what medical or genetic condition a person claims to have, you just can't break the laws of physics. If a person is fat it is due to them overeating.
