gabbys on rovera has "gravy beef" which is served on three scoops of mashed potatoes. a real comfort food. never found decent biscuits and gravy here or just biscuits for that matter. rather than custard i get the leche flan sold by the SU farm store. addictive
may depend on where you walk your dog! just back from a very poor part of bayawan and its not true there philippine legislature reportedly is considered a food relief bill for children aged 3 to 5 to give them more nutrition since they are supposedly most at risk. be interesting to know how parents with multiple children will handle that idea if it comes to fruition to the best of my knowledge there have only been two food distributions in negros. early on was a federal relief of 6 kilos of rice and 1 kilo of sardines to every household. when that got to bayawan it was 2 kilos of rice per household. phil star reports 90 barangay captains are under investigation for misappropriation of food relief plus a number of other people the last food relieve in dgt city was 25 kilo bag of rice to everyhousehold i am not aware of any other relief from the govt since this started. anyone know more? i am just thinking if the kids are getting fat i am not sure it has anything to do with government handouts which might be more compatible with popcorn
Just slightly veering off topic: I added mustard to gravy recently and really liked it. Thought I had discovered something until I found a recipe on the internet. That recipe is more complex, but in my simple way I took a packet of mushroom gravy, cut off the top, poured it into a cup, microwaved it, added some liquid mustard and hey presto! Keep It Simple and Smile.
I make my own. It is pretty simple to make. It consists of eggs, condensed milk, milk (I've left milk out and it turned out fine) and sugar. Most recipes call for vanilla extract but I prefer to add cinnamon and nutmeg, which I highly suggest trying. A rice cooker is my preferred method for steaming it. I have also substituted the sugar for caramel (real caramel, not simply heating up sugar that most recipes call for). Pretty good but my caramel turned out pretty chewy. Would have been excellent if I could figure out how to make it more of a liquid than a solid.
Biscuits and gravy? Biscuits are not the same but you can make them here, just wish they had some real buttermilk. Gravy is simple, butter and flour for a rue, then add milk and thicken. What you use for meat is up to you, but you can also do a nice SOS on toast with some lean ground beef.
Maybe not YET!But As such, the Philippines remains very much focused on battling its long-standing problem of malnutrition, while at the same time bearing the burden of increasing rates of obesity. Link for digestion; Link not working
