Yesterday I went to the Smart Telecom Center to buy some cell phone load...

As I enter the Smart Center a guy approaches me and here is the exact conversation:

Smart Guy - Hello Sir, what can I help you with

Me - Hi, I just need to buy some load for my cell phone

Smart guy - Sorry Sir - Out of stock

Me(in disbelief) - What??? you are out of load? Both E-Load and cards?

Smart Guy - Yes Sir, Sorry Sir - please try again tomorrow

(At this point I was laughing so hard that I could hardly keep myself together...)

Me - Oh my God, Smart is out of load - did you try to text Globe and ask for Pasaload?

Ha! Sounds kind of like my experience with Globe down in Dumaguete. I was trying to get Globe internet hooked back up to my house. The landlord had it before but, she had stopped using it. Anyway, I am at the desk of Globe asking for them to reinstall it. The lady from Globe went on for about 10 minutes on how the 'landlord' still owed 2000 pesos for the internet and that she should have paid for this 2 months ago, blah, blah, blah, yada yada yada! After all this, I said how about if I just pay her outstanding internet bill and then you can put this into my name and we can buy or get your internet again. This moron, said, I am sorry sir, we do not service that area anymore! WHY DIDNT SHE JUST TELL ME THIS IN THE FIRST PLACE????!!!! My Filipina/American wife just looked at me and we both just started laughing! Why did she have to give us the long diatribe nonsense? Maybe its part of that chizmo bula bula.

I have a similar story to tell. This happened at McDonalds about 3 months ago. I thought I'd stop in for a Quarter Pounder one evening, and when I went to order it, the lady at the counter said "Sorry sir, we are out of stock of hamburgers". Of course my jaw dropped. Can you imagine, McDonalds out of stock of burgers. Oh well, as was said, only in the Philippines.

    out of stock

I have found that sometimes "out of stock" means they dont know what u are asking for or that they just dont want to look for it. Many times in Dumaguete i hav seen what I need but is out of stock hehehhehe

Maybe this is partly true Patrick. I say partly because I have been with my wife (Filipina/American) and she has been told that the item is 'out of stock' and we went around and eventually found it too. Mentally inept, lazy and or just don't care? I dont know. It does seem to be prevalent. Could be just a miscommunication but, then again, my wife is talking to these sales people in their language (Tagalog or Viscayan sp). Cause for a while, I thought I was not communicating well enough and it was all my fault! I think that the owners and managers of these different establishments are also to blame for this ineptness. What I have discovered is that most if not all sales people are not getting any commissions on the sale. So, there is definite lack of incentive to be on your toes and ready to make the sale. If they sell you the product or dont sell it, it does not matter to them!

Why is it that in the Philippines most people walk really slowly but, drive like maniacs and why are there lines on the road to indicate different lanes and if its a passing lane or not?

I'm not shure if this is correct all over. Cause I have been buying trousers in LEE PLAZA a couple of times, and everytime it seems like the salesgirl seems eager to follow the sale until cashier. But of course I can aggree that service level would be better if sales people got some kinda commission for the sale all over the town.
