It might be a worthy note to add that the administration don't need any criticisms , from anybody, including the author of this post , me , they are trying to survive like the rest of us in this world , and when they get to addressing different things it will be when they can , which is d*mn well good enough ,I would like to think support and a positive approach by all is all that is needed , and how bloomin easy is that . Just got my globe tattoo working on the laptop , so popped my 2 bobs worth in , in Cebu now and onto Negros on Saturday , and it feels great to be back , take care all

Hi Jack, I've been a seldom participating member of the forum since 2009, using the forum as a source of information about my future home (then--I've lived here since 12 of 2012). Perhaps many of the 3,000 are like I was--passive because we were not here and felt ignorant of the activities in Dumaguete. From personal experience, the Forum members have been a tremendously valuable resource on "where to find... or what do you do when..., so perhaps we can generate some dialog with the current residents and those who "hope to be" or who intend to visit prospective partners here. Many of the topics have been seriously discussed, such as hotels, restaurants, activities, diving resorts, but what about updates on the aforementioned or suggestions for visitors or new residents? All of us have had both humorous and not-so-humorous experiences when we were "rookies" here in Dumaguete. " A smart person learns from their mistakes, but a WISE person learns from the mistakes of others"---just a thought!

Forums are not your average website. Not easy to manage them as they aren't a straight forward business model. Are they there to provide information, make friends, find products, support businesses, all of the above? You have to deal with people who don't want change yet still keep moving forward so to attract new customers I wouldn't touch that with a 10ft pole. Dealing with any of those alone can be a headache. It's like walking on a tightrope while balancing on a beach ball.

They certainly have their work cut out for them. Good luck to the new owners with whichever road they wish to take.

In Japan.....next stop I will be in a position/place where I can tell this filipino guy who keeps butting in line what I think about him. The release is coming.

    oztony,
Pleas, kind sir, tell this dumb kano what a"bob" has to do with anything? Did he post something I missed? How do you "edit" a Bob? ( You mentioned: "Last edited by oztony; 05-08-2014 at 07:04 PM. Reason: added an extra 2 bobs worth). Is Bob wirth any USD?? If so, what's the current exchange rate for Bob? Does it matter if Bob is small and of light frame, or big, fat and overweight....??
Just wondering, mate, as I have heard the name Bob thrown around a lot, and poor me, living out in the province north of Dumaguete I don't believe I have ever seen a bob. Help me out? Thank you, mate. (LOL!!)

Here you go Don. A "bob" was a slang word for the British shilling, which was part of the UK currency until 15 February 1971 when decimalisation took place and its' value became 5 pence. Throwing in your two bobs worth is akin to an American saying "just my two cents worth". Two bob is a reference to the two shilling coin, officially known as the Florin, which was produced by the Royal Mint from 1849 until 1967 and withdrawn from circulation in 1993. No one knows for sure how the shilling became a "bob", but the most believable explanation is that it was a reference to Sir Robert Walpole (1676-1745) who became the Secretary of War in 1708. In those days, recruiting into the army was done by enticement, a sergeant in full scarlets accompanied by a drummer and two riflemen, visiting villages and hamlets, promising fame and glory and one bob to anyone who signed on. Consequently enlisting into the army was known as "taking the Kings shilling", unlike the navy who were press-ganged and got bugger all !!

    Has it got a value ? Yes. 1 bob = 1 old shilling = 5 new pence = 8.4 US cents.

Never seen a bob ? Ok, here is a two bob bit, front and back.

Interesting. So keeping this going, how did “Robert” become aka “Bob”?

BOB is the common nickname of anyone called Robert, BOB Marleys real name was Robert Nesta. BOB Dylan is Robert Zimmerman.

As Broadside explained, most Probable answer, is Sir Robert Walpole, having started started the issue and so the BOB was most probably, called this, as it was his way of Enlisting men, into the Army.

Just as a side note, the Scouts in the UK had or may still have a " Bob a Job week" This is where scouts/cubs will do small jobs for mainly Elderly people and receive a Bob (1 Shilling) for doing it.) proceeds I think, went to the Scout Movement.
