JP, the current UK tax free allowances on income for April 2013 to April 2014. Born before 6th April 1938 - 10660 pounds. Born between 6th April 1938 and 5th April 1948 - 10500 pounds. Born after 5th April 1948 - 9440 pounds. Income up to these figures is free of income tax. Any amount over those figures is taxed at 20%.
