Just to update this. I went to ask at Orient Wind today and they no longer assist with Philippine passports. The lady who spoke to me said the DFA are open in Dumaguete and they are not 'Travel Agent Friendly' so you need to go there on your own.

All DFA's are not the same. There are still some travel agents in Dumaguete who have connections to the Cebu DFA and their requirements are more flexible. For example, I did not find on this thread or anywhere else online that acceptable ID may include a baptismal certificate or a certified letter from the Comelec to say you are a registered voter. It seems these can be accepted if you have connections to the Cebu DFA. Looks like we'll be making a trip to Cebu next week.

:cry::cry: I thought I was okay because my passport expires in January but I just found this and we already bought a ticket for Thailand in December.

Beginning 15 August 2016, an all improved high-security e-passport will be issued to every Filipino with the use of the new passport system.

Lol, so the rumors aren't true that you should have at least 6 months until the expiry date. Just called Japan immigration and they told me, they don't care even if I return the day before my passport expires.

But did you call the Philippine DFA and will they let someone on a Philippine passport out of the country without 6 months validity on it?

    Travel Requirements
    1. What are travel requirements for Philippine citizens with tourist-purpose visas?

    1. Unexpired DFA-issued passport (at least six-months valid)
    2. Unexpired visa (if visa-required at final destination); and
    3. Return ticket.

Now I understand. True also in Japan. My daughter who is Japanese insisted I renew my passport. But since I am Filipino, I'm not Japan's problem.

You can become their problem if you travel with a neat expired passport. Something could happen that delays your departure (medical emergency, crime victim, death of travel partner, etc) and then their government has to waste resources on you and your visa status.

I remember now why they tolerated my passport with three months validity left last 2011. I was going home where I could easily get a new passport when those things you mentioned happen. It just didn't come to mind that while it is true I can reenter Japan without a problem, most places require six-month validity upon entry. I emailed the Thai Embassy and I got a quick response. I have no faith with Tokyo Philippine Embassy-- they didn't even pick up my call though I appreciate their announcement on the website. I should be checking from time to time.
