For people that don't have saving a mountain of debt would be better than being 6 feet under.
The main advantage to having a credit card is the hospital can get their deposit right away. Imagine breaking a leg Friday evening and having to wait until the bank opens on Monday.
Sometimes families have to make a hard decision when it comes to a loved one. This isn't the only country where people face that problem.-

My wife went to the Philhealth office yesterday to ask if i am covered on her policy, they said no i have to have my own cover at 15000 or 17000, she showed them a printout dated April 2016 that lists me as a dependant but it was still a big NO

Just signed up. Don't know if it is worth it. It is 15,000 for SRRV visa and 17,000 for others. For a new application, the effectivity is after the 9th month of application. So I believe you are not covered right away for anything major.
You need a 1x1 headshot picture for the card and your birth certificate, and a copy of your visa/passport.-

Just checked with my wife. We paid 3,600 pesos. She said the 3,600 is for the minimum coverage, it seems there are better levels of coverage available. She had no info on the better plans.

Air evacuation is about $400 a year and only transports you after you are stabilized at your expense. Read a policy carefully, ignore the sellers, and then decide.

This is very useful information. Yes, I noticed when I accompanied a helper to NOPH on Veterans Ave that there was a sign posted, stating that the patients with PhilHealth will not be billed for any charges above whatever Phil health covered. Would a Westerner want to get treated there? That’s another topic.

I know it changed in July 2017, but that's not the argument. I had Dengue fever in March and was admitted to hospital and Philhealth paid some of the bill.
Every January we pay the wife's PH and I ask them can I use my wife's policy. The reply yes you can, or you can have your own policy and pay 17k.
So I just pay 2,400 and I'm covered. Maybe it will change in January. I will keep you updated when we pay the annual payment in January.-
