If your opinion were even close to being correct then 100% of the young girls here would be pregnant before they got married. Fortunately that is not the case. And I know for a fact that these programs work. I have seen the results (or lack there of, as in no kids!). Does it work everywhere? No. Does it work all the time? No, but it is better than doing nothing. Ultimately it is up to the girl. She has to be strong enough in her convictions to not just say "no", but "hell no!".

That can be a real joke though. Years ago when we had nothing Rony went to the health center here. She was told by the very rude old woman that ANY kind of birth control (pills, IUD, etc.) would render her immediately and permanently sterile, and she could not have it until she had at least two children.

Obviously that was the church talking, there is no separation of church and state here. Maybe things are a little more progressive here now?

True, things can be a bit "stupid" here to put it mildly. My wife was told she couldn't get a birth control shot unless she already had at least one child. What's up with that? So, she lied, and got the shot anyhow. Fortunately they don't do the same thing when requesting birth control pills.

I think the health "professionals" are handed an agenda by whoever is in charge. I don't think the church is in charge, but it definitely has an influence.

i beg to disagree on this one. no offense but who gave your wife the advice that she cant have a contraceptive shot because she hasnt got a child? i think you got it all mixed up, when i was an intern nurse i know that doctors there wont give permanent contraception especially if she hasnt got a child and less than 40 yrs old. Any woman can be prescribed by her GP for any birth control except for permanent sterilisation. ( this is only applicable for women that has more than 4 children and have no means of income and age beyond 40).

When i was a nursing student we were taught to learn from it so i doubt anyone with a medical background told your wife such thing. I really think its ridiculous. I've had a depo shot when i was 21 and had no kids.

Bull. I went to siliman here to inquire about vasectomy. The doctor told me since I didn't have any kids and because of my age (30) that I couldn't get one and she wanted me to come in for a counseling with her to talk about my reasons for wanting it. She even had the nerve to ask me what my religion was. Since it was really none of her d*mn business I decided not to go any further than saying "I don't want kids and I don't have a religion!" and never returned. Yes that falls into the permanent sterilisation section but my reasons and religion are not of concern to some bible thumping doctor.

I do not for one second doubt the members who have said they were told that retarded crap from the quack doctors here.

Poor Knowdafish. I would really like to know what Utopian dream world you live on? You can't really believe what you are saying. Please open your eyes and look around you. Take a look at the birth rates here. Show me another country that tries to push abstinence more than the Philippines. The Catholic Church pushes its agenda through the Church, the schools, the media and all levels of politics; hypocritically promoting abstinence and zero tolerance for birth control at the same time. the results are evident. Most of these young girls you see walking around here pregnant or with babies had no idea they would get pregnant until they saw that bump on their belly.

Young men all over the world are driven by hormones (don't you remember your own youth?) and they will do anything possible to convince the young girls to fulfill these needs; human nature (or maybe people are different where I come from, haha)!!! If the poor girl's only defense is her morals, I can guarantee you that, more often than not, she will get pregnant. If you don't believe me, take a walk around the Provincial Hospital delivery room.

If your 30yrs old and no kids and never been married the reason why he asked you the question is that they don't want to be held reliable if in case in long term you'll regret having the operation and yes it has more to do with religion too. You have to have at least 1 kid, and at least 40 yrs old to be considered for a permanent sterilisation.

Perhaps if the rubbers they sell in the PI were larger and a little more industrial strength, guys would be a little more willing to put a lilly on their willy and not leave it to the girls to take the pill. Talk about choking the chicken...

From one of my recent posts, many things have been tried but they were quite invasive and maybe not to easy to accept...
