When a student age 15 is given homeworks which involves sticking two bits of card together, buying a plant or printing an A4 of a Korean Pop Group, I see that age 15 here is age 6 in the UK.

I also know an Honours' Student who, whilst achieving mid 90s in public school gradings could not get into private school and had a score below 60.

These poorly educated kids become teachers and so the cycle continues.

A major problem is that parents are unwilling to confront the schools and ask for something better. And many of these parents actually do their kids' homework!

 

They will but won't understand it and then say the writers are anti filipino and should go home.

 

I find that the schools here are more into memorization as opposed to teaching their kids to think critically. The students can easily spout paragraphs verbatim yet not know what it is they are saying. I have also noticed that the teachers here place a lot of importance on their being “authority figures” and do not like their students to ask a lot of questions. Asking questions is impertinent and is not encouraged. My observations are, of course, based on just the two schools my son has been in.

 

I have been asking my step son since he was 6 or 7 years old how much 15 plus 7 is. He still can't answer it without using his fingers.. and now he is 42. Only went to the best schools in Dumaguete also..

 

Are test not designed to see how well the child has been taught to take a test.

 

Not much better in the private schools I doubt, judging by the lack of homework my 15 year old gets per week. Was this based on all schools, private & public findings? Half the time my in-law/outlaw nephews, nieces, cousins etc etc spend in the public school system, they hardly ever go it seems like, teachers' meetings, public holidays, schools' games meets, weather disturbances, etc etc. Not much of a surprise there for me at least.
P.S. Rappler also seems to like knocking governments down a bit, in every thing it's written recently too, of course.
