We don't even get any checkpoints in the uk,cameras cover most roads in and out of town and also the motorways, they monitor everything.if you have not got car tax, insurance or mot they will know and usually you will get a summons through the post and same for speeding fines.
All the cops have built in cameras in the front grill and windscreen and will pull you if there is something out of place.
I have seen some instances with drivers who offend time and time again they will take you and your vehicle to a scrap yard and crush the vehicle infront of you.
All it would take here is something like this to happen once a month and things would change pretty quickly as the bamboo telegraph travels at lightening speed here.

Ceres Bus lines has a program like that for errant motorcycle drivers here. Many times I have seen a bus crush and destroy a motorcycle on the spot for doing some stupid erratic driving move in front of the bus. If the motorcycle driver is really stupid and thinks he can control the bus' movement and momentum he gets a "Darwin" type award on the spot too. :wtf:
This is private enterprise at it best, because the LTO officer will not do a thing about bad drivers, particularly if the driver is a cousin's boyfriend's, Barangay neighbors' uncle mistress' half son... or some other close relative like that.

It's a comelec checkpoint. They are checking for illegal firearms.

We've had a few of those on our road over the last month, there were a couple of signs in the road a police pick up and a few women police officers sitting under a tree on a bench,it lasted about 15 mins and absolutely nothing was done whatsoever!

I was replying to CHMacQueens comments on the US. I think his information may be out of date.

If its anything like Canada then they would be using the excuse that they are looking for drink drivers when they pull everyone over in a Stop Check to ask: License and registration please, have you been drinking tonight, and is everyone wearing their seatbelt? Oops big fine for that last one.

What would be interesting would be, Has anyone on the Forum actually been stopped in any Check Points mentioned and can tell us what actually happened? This might help us all to understand the Intentions and use of them.

Not this election but 2012 was stopped 3 times, one lot just looked in the window to see who was in the car but zambongita police asked for licence and papers and just asked where we had come from and we're going to and let us go on our way.

Whist we many, may think they are a joke (and this could be the Case) I have put a Rapplers PSA up that may throw some light on what is supposed to happen:

INFOGRAPHIC: What to expect at Comelec checkpoints
Trusting this link is in order it may serve to help Understand.
