Can anyone tell me how long does the burning in Dumaguete last for.
It seemed to start last week, and is driving us me mad.
I suffer with Asthma and its no joke with all the smoke, there is obviously no law reguarding this matter AH AH !! In other countries it has been banned no crops to be burned at all or a big fine.

Its no wonder kids cough here and a lot of people have chest complaints, smoking is one thing but burning is an Environmental Suicide
    Cheers Di:(

    Welcome to PI!

:Unfortunately Naropa, Not just crops, it is the PI's way of Rubbish disposal. As you may have noticed, the rubbish collection service is practically none existent. If we are to keep the vermin down and stop the stray Dogs and Suchlike from ripping it all apart, Burning is the only Solution. I am sure there are some laws somewhere but it really is a catch 22 situation. Sorry to hear of the ailment you suffer BUT on this issue, I feel it is going to be a grin and bear it. Not knowing where you are from originally I can't comment on the way it was back home, We from Europe, if we are honest, had some thoughts the same as you, we had laws that were enforced, I can't see it changing and sit here as guilty as most, I burn, early Morning and again at dusk as needed. Sorry! it just has to be done, if we want a vermin, Rubbish free envoironment. This is me being honest.

Plus the majority burn wood to cook with. I live downwind from the burn and the cow and goat poo. Mosquitos ignore the smoke bombs and still launch their attach.

THE #1 cause of deaths in philippines is upper respiratory infection and most of those had other complications due to asthma and other...While i choke back the anxiety from that I go on to talk about the HEPA Filter fan which I found none of for sale in negros so far...I shipped over the one I used in USA for the volcano smoke problem in hawaii(it works very little for volcano smoke) >the hepa filter fan makes a huge difference for me and I run it all day and night when I'm in the house even with windows open it helps...Its a fan boxed in to hold a filter pad through which all incoming air passes..it uses a paper filter like water filters do and it uses activated carbon filter layer like water filters do. It filters allergens like dust and pollen and even bacteria and odors taken up by carbon layer..It reduces smoke very well.... I have one replacement filter left(they last 3 months recommended) So I rebuilt my filter cartridge by washing the paper part out which destroyed the mesh and carbon part so I bought activated carbon face mask at citi hardware, cut it up and sewed it over the paper and did 2 layers of that...

Its possible to build a box around an ordinary house fan here and fit face mask filter (activated carbon kind\several of them per each fan and )into its air intake part and put another layer in the air outlet part,,the fan must be boxed in a way that doesnt cycle intake air with out flow air bypassing the filter...I box in the back of fan and fit filters into box inflow there, then go on to box in front of fan and fit filter in outflow there...It will make big difference if U cant buy factory engineered one...Less than 20 piso per each face mask of activated carbon

True! Even road deaths are higher on the list than respiratory problems!

    Go figure! :D

    Road Accidents

"Defensive driving is a major lesson taught to students in driving schools around the country. Nevertheless, the majority of Filipino drivers have been taught to drive in an informal setting. Defensive driving, which entails taking safety precautions and practicing accident prevention while driving, is often ignored. It is not a surprise, therefore, that road accidents have become the fourth leading cause of death in the country today."
