For what it's worth now - Seychelles (we have a good friend from there), Tahiti, and Truk are now miles ahead of the Philiipines....OK Truk residents may have to fly to Guam for specialist treatment....Otherwise, they are doing just fine....simple - but fine. Yes, thirty years ago the Philippines was paradise. Different country then. Kids had two parents, life was pretty well regulated, education and medical systems were reasonable, most people had a roof over their heads and enough to eat. I loved going there then. There was a lot of optimism and hope, and I thought myself - this is a 'tiger' in the making. Marcos was still in charge....the country was ticking over and he and his mongrel cohorts were stealing all they could....but things were moving in spite of the poor leadership. The real rot started with Aquino and a country thrust into something they never had the stomach to accomplish...a self-determined future bound by national values and aspirations. Anyway, best of luck but I have no illusions. All signs point downwards...Would take a real revolution to turn it around...
