    Hi to all the members,
Im on the process now of making decisions whether this is the place to stay with my family in a long-term but just wanna ask couple of questions...

    1. Is there any black-out or brown-out in the area
and how often does it happen?
    2. Is there enough water supply in the entire area?(bacong)
    3. Do most people have a back-up generators?
    4. Can i get my drivers license and rego done in Dumaguete or do I have
    to go to Cebu.

I would really appreciate any response.
    Thank you.

    Kris

    1) Yes, and it happens at least monthly and occasionally weekly.

    2) Yes, there is enough of a water supply in Bacong, but how, when, and at what pressure it is supplied at varies.:D

    3) Most? No! Some? Yes!

    4) Yes, you can get your drivers license and registration done in Dumaguete, but if your vehicle was originally registered in Cebu, then back to Cebu you must go.

    Registration

I bought a couple of different vehicles that had previously been registered in Cebu. When it was time for renewal, I just did the smoke test and gave the papers to my Insurance Agent and she processed the Change of Venue for me, changing my registration to Dumaguete. It was relatively painless. I believe that most insurance agents will process this kind of paperwork for you, just to get your business.

As in my earlier thread, unless the rules have changed in the last few weeks, LTO here won't process renewals if they were previously from Danao Cebu or Lapu Lapu Mactan. All others can be done here. It takes a little longer and I assume a little more money for the change of venue.

Kris, being I had a home built in Bacong last year, I will weigh in on your questions.
    1. Is there any black-out or brown-out in the area
and how often does it happen?
Frequent brown outs, had one during the night last night. Unless there is a maintenance program at the power plant, brownouts here generally only last an hour or so. Last year I lived in Dumaguete near the hiway and they were intalling new power poles and had weekly Saturday or Sunday 8-5 brownouts.
    2. Is there enough water supply in the entire area?(bacong)
There is unlimited water, but depending where you live the pump may go out or they may perform maintenance. I am in the process of installing a backup water supply system. Others foreigners I know in Bacong have some type of backup.
    3. Do most people have a back-up generators?
I personally didn't get a backup generator because I would need too large of one to run my house, 3 good size aircons. What I did have to buy was a power transformer for about 55k pesos. This week I will buy a voltage regulator my microwave, volts drop to the 180 range during peak hours.
    4. Can i get my drivers license and rego done in Dumaguete or do I have
    to go to Cebu.
You can get your drivers license in Dumaguete at the Land Transportation Office.

I will add the following: In Bacong you want to be near the primary Noreco power line, not stuck with a secondary line. You also want to make sure there is a municipal water line you have access too. If you decide to buy a lot or house, there are many other considerations we can offer advice on.

Thank you so much Pato, Steve and Ron to all your response, it really really helps me and my family a lot. Its clear to us now that we are giving it a go to live there but for how long that depends on the circumstances. Its seems to be a lot more easier to get around compared to Cebu areas, and everywhere you live has its own few problems but just try to get around it and work it out,
    Again Thank you.

Kris, best of luck to you and your family. As everyone always recommends, stay at a resort or hotel for a while and check everything out and make sure this is "your cup of tea". I did just that, stayed at a resort for a month, rented a house, then chose our permanent location.
