yes, it is true. Basic principle: sound-waves need any kind of mass for traveling, as denser as faster and further. Exception, the mass has a surface designed to reflect the sound-waves in other directions. The ground might be somewhere between air and liquids in terms of density. interesting that light-waves don't need that. Example, 2 space shuttles in space. The crew of the one shuttle could see the explosion of the other one but could not hear it. Basically all starwars-like genre movies have that wrong... enough off topic cheers Rhoody
