Speaking from experience, I would only inform his wife/gf to notify the embassy. I had a well-intended friend notify the U.S. embassy of my husband's death the day he died (without informing me), before I was ready to notify them (sometimes the banks gets wind of it and will freeze assets/bank accts). I had to act quick to get much-needed cash out of an account for bills/burial expenses, before it was frozen.

 

I think the warden wanted to contact bob,s wife and in my mind this was correct thing to do, she should be the one to decide who to tell and when. i also know of a smart ars aussie that rang centerlink in Australia they in turn stopped a payment in transit he also had his bank account closed 8 hours after his death and left her with out money he had a will leaving her everything . That 3 years ago and the bank still have his money locked up

 

Dear DumagueteInfo. Last will and testimony. In case someone finds me dead, I don't care what you do. Dump me in the ocean. Tell the wife/gf to save the money. No expenses.

No widow's package or burial assistance for American's....just the $255 death "benefit".

 

I don't see where it said Bob was an American. As far as I know, Americans are on their own. SS may pay a widow a one time death benefit of $255 but that will be months in coming. I'm fairly certain the American embassy will do fork all.

 

The other day, people were Saying things about the US Embassy warden, This Poster is a UK Embassy Warden and is doing the job asked of him.
Damned if they Do and damned if they don't do the job.
Lets Remember, Late reported deaths will cause problems, We Die on the date of the Death Certificate not when it Suits us.

 

I'm with TheDude on this one. Screw notifying the embassy. That is up to the GF/Wife. I'd rather a funeral pyre built for me out back and never say a word to the embassy. Unless someone has some major ties back home such as property and what not then that is a different story but still comes down to the GF/Wife. I'm sure as heck not going to be happy from beyond the grave is the government or my bank freezes my assets from my partner because they are hoping to keep them for themselves.
