    USA passport renewal from your home???

    am i missing something here or can a person renew a USA passport from the comforts of your home in da fils?

    http://manila.usembassy.gov/service/passports/renewal.html

    i cut out a few lines but here's the good parts;

    Step 2:
    Mail your documents to the embassy at the following mailing address: Citizenship and Passport Unit, American Citizens Services, Consular Section, U.S. Embassy, 1201 Roxas Boulevard, 1000 Manila.
    Do not make an online appointment for this service. Strictly Mail only and no walk in.
    You may also use our contracted courier by calling (02) 879-4747 to have Air21 courier pick-up the documents and deliver them to the Embassy. Note: If you send it via Air21 courier, the one-time courier fee covers the two way service: pick-up of documents and delivery of the completed passport.

    Please include the following:
    • Completed and signed DS-82 application form
    • Your most recent passport
    • Two pieces 2"x 2" photos

    Step 3:
    Once your documents are received, the Embassy will notify you through email for the instructions on when to come to the embassy to pay the application fee as well as to arrange for delivery of the passport with the Embassy's contracted courier, Air21 courier (for mailed-in applications).

    Alternatively, you may send a representative to pay the application fee on your behalf.

    ==============================================
    one more time:
    ''Alternatively, you may send a representative to pay the application fee on your behalf.''

    so...
    IF Air21 can pick-up your passport renewal documents
    AND deliver them to the Embassy
    AND return your new passport to you
    AND you can send a representative (Air21) to pay the application fee on your behalf, it sure looks like a person who would rather stay home with the little woman than travel to the big city can have Air21 do the whole passport renewal for you?

    whatcha think, am i missing something?
    has anyone done this???

    thanks...
    norm : ))~

    Well, heres an update....
    The consulate's website said they would be open from 9-11 am. So really wanting to get this done, I showed up at 7:15.
    Had one lady and her Daughter in front of me.
    I was quite surprised when the guard opened the door and let us in at 7:30
    By 8:30 I was walking out the door with my passport receipt, while there I had made arrangements for Air21 to deliver my passport to the house C.O.D.
    Easy day.

    Going to renew my passport tomorrow in Cebu. I seem to remember a price increase since this posting, but according to their website it's still $110. Has anyone done it lately?

    I sent a pinoy friend with payment to Cebu. Taking the 5 a.m. ferry, he was at the consulate a 9 a.m., and back in Dumaguete the same day--with pasalubong. Taxi fare from Ceres South Terminal and back was just about P100 each way, with neat receipts printed out.

    I renewed mine in the US last year but I had someone hand carry my documents in DC for a 24 hour return. It was pretty pricy.

    I took the midnight ferry to Cebu, arrived around 7 Am. Went straight to the consulate, John Domingo is off on vacation and will return to hand over the office to a new officer in charge and enjoy a well earned retirement.

    The passport renewal is still $110 but they no longer except dollars, it costs P5,060 total plus P200 for air 21 delivery in 4 to 5 weeks. Only took around 1 hour.

    Then the exciting Ceres buss ride! The driver knew every curve in the road and didn't throw the passengers around much or ever slam on the brakes, But I have never had such a fast ride on that route, he even overtook a speeding ambulance!!!! Cebu to Bato to catch the 6 Pm barge in 3 hours and 10 miutes....
