I'm sure the occupancy rate and lack of customers will eventually impact the job security of the current manager. If this happens before the mall falls into an even greater state of disrepair and desolation and cannot be salvaged under its current franchise name is yet to be seen. I've seen some pretty desolate malls in the Philippines lose their franchise and then be turned into more of a local market style setup or be taken over by another large mall franchise and brought back to life.

Rent is very high, escalators are not working and many customers feel it is unsafe to use the escalator stairs that are steep

I tempted to debate the idea that these regulations did what you claim but not even I, a libertarian, really argues for NO regulation, just like no one really argues that ALL regulation is good (although a lot argue for much more), the point is is that regulation can impede business. The Philippines is a good example of regulatory bureaucracy getting slowing things down and getting in the way. Amazon has the advantage of being able to source products and vendors where they find it favors them and source their distribution centers where it favors them. There is a reason Amazon does not source its distribution in the Philippines. This gives them a huge comparative advantage to a mall, which is located where it is located.

RRHI profit down 32.4% as of June

Gokongwei-led retailer Robinsons Retail Holdings Inc. (RRHI) booked P1.77 billion in first semester net profit, down 32.4 percent from the same period last year as noncash interest expense on lease liability ballooned following a shift to new accounting standards.

RRHI reflected the year-to-date impact of adopting the new accounting standard on leases under Philippine Financial Reporting Standards (PFRS)16.

It makes you wonder if they have found some serious probs with the foundations in robinsons mall and its being kept quiet for the time being. Im sure a few will remember the 2 yr pause due to foundation probs and have seen the subsidence at the back along with popped tiles everywhere. Maybe they will tear it down and re build it.
