Malaybalay is famous for its Kaamulan Festival, a yearly celebration of the culture and customs of the seven ethnic hilltribes of Bukidnon: the Higaonon, Umayammon, Manobo, Tigwahanon, Talaandig, Matigsalug, and Bukidnon.

Kaamulan in the local dialect means a “gathering for a purpose,” either a ritual, a wedding ceremony, or a festival to celebrate the harvest season. Alongside this cultural festival are the not so-indigenous competitions of rough road riding and rodeos. For one week, the best cowboys in the land slug it out in various horse and rodeo shows, while off-road aficionados in 4x4 trucks make the most out of the rolling plateaus, low plains alternating with highlands and the deep canyons the mountains has to offer.
