I am planning to visit Dumaguete for a few months or so in September, for diving and just general living.

September is the month of the rugby world cup. I am an avid supporter and need to watch all the games. They are being shown on South African channel SuperSport 1. I tried researching on the internet and it appears that the cable TV operators in Negros do not have that channel (they do in Boracay and Manila).

I wondered if there are any sports bars in the area that connect to the Indian Ocean MNet satellite and receive all the South African DSTV/MNet channels?

Or are there other TV channels available on cable TV that wil show all the rugby world cup games?

Hope someone can help, otherwise I'll have to postpone my trip. :(

    Many thanks

Hi ZambeziKid, welcome to the forum! Cable in Dumaguete receives STAR Sports from Hong Kong. They have covered the Rugby World Cup in the past, televising many game, so I would think they would cover it again this year. So, I don't think you would have to postppone your trip. Enjoy your trip!!

Rumour is the Springboks will take all comers in France this year. The All Blacks may not be up to speed for the competition...Australia can't quite seem to get it together either. Just may be a SA year. Have seen some South African teams playing here in Perth in Super 14 league this season. They've done well. Given the talent pool, SA will be a good punt for the championship. Hope you catch all the matches Zambezikid...I sure will...

Thanks for the info West Coast Hokies - will have to check out the details with Star Sports then I suppose. I can't arrive on the 'chance' that the games may be showing. You know what they say "Rugby is not a matter of life and death, it's more important than that!"

And Garbonzo - Yes, well I'm certainly hoping for that! We nearly beat the ABs this season first with half our first team missing, and then gave them a good run with our third team! If all the players are fit, we have a good chance, though we do struggle away from home.

As you are in Australia, maybe you can help me ... there's a channel here called Australia Network, do they show the rugby?

Yes, I remember England winning - seems like a long time ago now ... was that the last time they won a match? ;-)

I actually delayed my arrival in Dumaguete until next week, cos i was not certain where i could watch the games. But will be watching final down there somewhere.

Any can recommend any bars with a good/lively atmosphere to watch it?

Last weekend was like Santa Claus arrived early for the Springboks, kicking Aus and NZ out - let's hope we can make the most of this opportunity now.

Must say I'll be more worried about playing France in the final in Paris, but I'm sure England will put up a bigger challenge than earlier in the competition too.

Still, I'm confident we can take this cup this time, and in four years time we'll have just about the same team, but at a better age cos most of our players are very young still - augers well for SA rugby.

Been a fantastci competition so far ... unless you support NZ of course!

Yes, think France will win, but will be cheering England (for an easier final for my boys) .
