MANILA - At least 120 Special Action Force (SAF) commandos refused to help their own comrades during the clash with armed groups in Mamasapano, Maguindanao last January 25, Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV said Friday. Trillanes said this information was not included in the draft Senate committee report on the Mamasapano incident, which has been signed by 20 senators. The report earlier said President Aquino is ultimately responsible for the outcome of the Mamasapano mission but noted it was the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters and other armed groups that killed the 44 SAF troopers. Trillanes: 120 SAF men refused to help comrades | ABS-CBN News I don't know who to believe in the article but I suspect there is enough screw ups to go all the way around. I think the last person to blame is the president though....and certainly no commander should be pointing the finger at him. That would land your @ss in jail if you were an officer in the US. The Philippines would be in a sad state if they ever did manage to get into a real war.
When we talk about time management in this House or the big house "Mamas" I end up saying, "It's OK you can start the War tomorrow, you are Obviously not ready Today " They will never understand the meaning of "The element of Surprise" unless of course they were on time and actually ready. The President knows it is down to him but like so many things, Denial and the Blind eye comes into Play. One has to Wonder if the men have Disobeyed an order or the Order was never given. Either way, this Military surely has a problem, whether it be in the Ranks or elsewhere. I suspect the Scrambled egg Brigade But........................ JP
It would be a quick end of the Philippines, as no foreign county would invade and play jungle games just to prolong a war and keep the benefactors of the war happy and well feed as these civil disturbances have for decades. . Remember the many of the armaments supplied to the SAF were not in working form but someone paid for them.
Working with the Afghans I am very familiar with this excuse. It's a load of bollocks. The only reason there equipment wouldn't work is because they simply don't know how to use it or have failed to maintain it. We do not hand off broken equipment to 3rd world countries. If I failed to do my job correctly and someone dies because of it should I be able to point the finger at Obama and say it was his fault and expect nothing to happen to me? These men were either incompetent or disobedient, either way they should be thrown in prison for it or at the very least stripped of their rank.
From what I read, maintenance and poor storage, or stored beyond the shelf like was the problem. But of coarse no one here would take the blame....
The rules should be very different for the military, especially SAF.....seems it's more of the same though. A shame.
