Don't get me wrong, I do not live in a concrete reinforced Bomb Shelter that would weather a nuclear holocaust, I live in a simple, but well constructed 4 inch Hollow Block House that is reinforced using 10mm & 6mm re-bar, and has been filled with good mix concrete and rendered over to smooth using Sahara water proof mix in the cement to stop water seepage into the reinforcement which makes for a remarkably strong wall!

The Decorative 4 inch Block windows in our bedrooms (which surprisingly do not let rain in despite some very heavy downpours!) are reinforced between the layers horizontally and vertically and TRUST ME they are a PITA to cut out! In our kitchen when I had to remove decorative block windows, I used a 4 inch masonry wheel on the grinder along with drilling a zillion 16mm holes with a masonry drill bit, then proceeded with an 8 pound sledge hammer and large cold chisel and it was HARD WORK to cut the two extra door ways into the wall I needed!! :sour:

Simple construction using good quality local materials (that will be the hardest part) and reinforcement can make for a very strong and sturdy home without going all out on something that will survive a Bomb blast.
