I agree that it is interesting as many countries are starting to allow legally married same sex spouses, how will the Philippines look at a Philippine citizen or dual that is married legally abroad.

This country is odd as you will come across many gay folks, with a number dressing feminine and there is a general acceptance even calling these folks her if they prefer. My wife has a number of gay friends that I've met, been to their homes as they have been to ours'. Even with the acceptance I would bet divorce would be allowed here first...or probably neither in our lifetimes. With the anger some express over something simple like family planning and birth control makes you wonder if social change is possible.

I support same-sex marriage. To each their own - Every person is entitled to his or her personal preferences and tastes.

I applaud the Irish people for approving same-sex marriage through national referendum. I think maybe some part of that vote was their successful attempt to shove it in the face of the Roman Catholic Church and show their bishops that they have little, or no, moral authority over the Irish people anymore. For that reason, I doubt same-sex marriage will come to the Philippines anytime soon. The Roman Catholic Church still commands much sway in the Philippines, and seems to be highly respected by most of the population and, more importantly, by the politicians.

But I do wish to see legal same-sex marriage in the Philippines since I will soon be living there with my legally married (in New York) Filipino SPOUSE (the correct word in all circumstances!) He can buy the land; I will build the house.
