Hotel Scam - This is one I would have fallen for Creativity wow This is one of the best scams I've heard about You arrive at your hotel and check in at the front desk. Typically when checking in, you give the front desk your credit card (for any charges to your room). You go to your room and settle in. All is good. The hotel receives a call and the caller asks for (as an example) room 620 - which happens to be your room. The phone rings in your room. You answer and the person on the other end says the following: 'This is the front desk. When checking in, we came across a problem with your charge card information. Please re-read me your credit card numbers and verify the last 3 digits numbers at the reverse side of your charge card.' Not thinking anything wrong, since the call seems to come from the front desk you oblige. But actually, it is a scam by someone calling from outside the hotel. They have asked for a random room number, then ask you for your credit card and address information. They sound so professional, that you think you are talking to the front desk. If you ever encounter this scenario on your travels, tell the caller that you will be down to the front desk to clear up any problems. Then, go to the front desk or call directly and ask if there was a problem. If there was none, inform the manager of the hotel that someone tried to scam you of your credit card information, acting like a front desk employee. This was sent to me by someone who has been duped........and is still cleaning up the mess. ANYONE travelling should be aware of this one

Fully booked scam. When a hotel advertises a 899 peso rate you need to book it in advance. When you show up with your suitcases and ask for the low rate the scamming hotels will always tell you that the 899 peso rooms are 'fully booked' but they have some 1600 peso rooms available. With one hotel I pointed out that there was absolutely no one else in the hotel that day. The clerk said: "All reservations, maybe they do not show up but I cannot give you those rooms". I went down the street and got an 800 peso room at another hotel. Just for curiosity I did the same thing at that scamming hotel a month later, same story.
This happened to me in Duma for real. I was at a sari sari store late at night, and bought something, the clerk handed me back my 50 change and It felt a little weird, looking closer at it, it looked printed like a real 50piso bill but said "Play money" in small print over the top. I handed it back and said, um I'd like to exchange this fake 50 you just gave me for a real 100 or I'll have PNP over here in a few minutes. She appolgized and blamed it on the poor lighting and that it was her kids and accidently was handed to me. We settled on my original 50 in change but Im sure that shook her up a bit haha, she seemed pretty nervous
While in Boracay never buy a tour or a ride on the beach or walking down white beach fronts path or ..well anything unless you are in the agencies store front. You risk the loss of anywhere to all your money to paying the *long nose fee* of double or triple !..only..
Exiting terminal 3 in Manila *ALWAYS* ignore the people asking if you want a taxi and go out the front turning right and go to the end where people are in line for a yellow taxi. Yellow taxi are the only ones that will charge you by meter. But you make sure the flag goes down before you leave the airport..just call it *due dilligence*
i can totally attest to that, grab a taxi on the street. Its much much cheaper. Anyone notice how the try and fence you in that parking/waiting area so its hard to get out to the street without having to haul all your sh*t over to the street..lol love it
Hotel Scam - This is one I would have fallen for Ed, have been mulling over that issue for a couple of days and came to the conclusion that whoever fell for that trick was totally and utterly clueless about the use of credit cards. I've been using mine (and I have a selection) quite extensively and never, ever have I been asked by front desk staff of a hotel or other commercial establishment to provide the 3-digit code on the reverse side of the card. That code is solely used during the internet transaction verification process to ensure the person quoting the card # is actually holding the card in his/her sweaty hands. I anyone would ask me to provide that number (over the phone or in person) I would tell that person to have his/her head examined.
