All I can say is that it (Bilderberg) is all the fault of former Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands, the grandfather of our current king, who presided over all Bilderberg conferences until 1975. After the Lockheed bribery scandal broke he was dropped from all public functions.
It's not all that secretive though, Wikipedia knows exactly where and when they met in every year since 1954, when the first of those meetings was held at the instigation of the aforementioned prince, at Hotel de Bilderberg in the Netherlands.
It's pretty much an event very similar to the World Economic Forum in Davos albeit on a smaller scale, invitation only for western politicians and CEO's.
Why it's the subject of conspiracy theories is known only by those who keep telling us that there's a global elite, Bilderbergers, Illuminati, New World Order, WEF, George Soros, Freemasons and whatever other groups that I forgot, that all have a plan to "do whatever".
Have fun with those conspiracies if you're so inclined.

I think that is far too soft.

Bilderberg is suspicious by its very nature.

You do not get that level of political, financial, military, corporate and strategic influence gathering privately around major global issues and then just wave it away as if it is some harmless social event. That is naive in the extreme.

Maybe it is not every conspiracy theory rolled into one. Fine. But it is still an elite closed-door network operating beyond meaningful public visibility, and that alone should concern anyone paying attention.

To ignore these meetings, or to dismiss scrutiny as “conspiracy thinking”, is possibly the more foolish position. Serious power rarely advertises itself honestly. It works through access, relationships, shared interests and private alignment.

    That is why Bilderberg matters.

I think there is an element of truth in all of the above groups having a secretive agenda for gain of some discription, it is often said power or money corrupts.
