Jack we can try. Usually I just buy a bunch of spring onions with roots in the market place and then plant them. There are so cheap, I would not consider growing them from seed, although I do have some seed. It takes me months to eat them all, or kill them ... which ever come first. It sure feels good to garden and cut the fresh when I am cooking dinner.

Last year in March, I had the seed and plant exchange focused on growing vegetalbes for the first time.. I think it was fun but certainly a little chaotic for me because I only gave myself about 1 month lead time. Of coarse I had no idea what was going to unfold as I developed the concept to quickly. I hope there is interest in doing it again this year and with the lead time it will be more successful.

Everyone who participated seemed to have a good time, sharing their seeds, plants and many gardening stories. We had food at last years event.

My goals was to trade seeds so that you did not have to pay 75 P for a packet of seeds and then not use 80 % of the seeds because they gave you so many in a packet. Consequently the cost of starting a garden is greatly reduced for those interested. Although I think everything worked well, there were some problems I would not like to repeat: Actually most people only want about 5 seeds or plants per species for their own use.

First problem was after announcing the seed exchange I found out most people wanted seedling plants instead of seeds, so I quickly started growing seedlings. It went OK, but not great because I was not prepared to grow and sell seedling and did not have the lead time.I do have the lead time this year.

I really had no idea what seed people wanted to so I had a little of everything. A good many people donated seeds, but some of the those seed either did not seem to generate fruit/vegetable growing plants or were maybe not fit for the region. I particularly had problem with fruit bearing tomatoes. Many times the best seed come from the vegetables we buy at the market and then harvest the seeds from here locally.

I would definitely do the process again if there are people who are interested in the experience again, or maybe for the first time this year.

I need input from those interested so I can do a better job or providing what you are want. This is you opportunity to grow you own fresh vegetables for home use. Please give me your opinions particularly on the plant types you want. Anyone wanting to donate seeds are appreciated. Let me know if you want seeds or seedling and what type I enjoy growing plants and do not mind starting seedling or ornamental cuttings. We can also do flowering plants.

My goal this year would be to have seeds and seedling available in mid March again. Particularly regarding seedling I need to know what you want so I know what to grow, as it takes time, and I do not like to have too many plants after the exchange. Zucchini were particularly desired last year. The Zucchini seed is expensive retailing at about 7.5 p per seed. I have bought some already and will grow those for people interested.

I will also have the 16-20-00 Fertilizer available this year also in small bags at very sharp reduction in the local retail stores if there is interest. I do this by buying 100 lb sacks and repackaging it in 5 kg plastic bags. Please let me know if there is an interest in the Fertilizer.

Lastly I will be starting an additional part time helper to aid in developing this event. Cheryl will be helping as she always does. Anyone know a young lady (over 18 yos, beautiful, with some (or no gardening experience depending on her figure as the experience level may become inconsequential in relationship to her beauty ) living in the Bacong area please let me know. The ladies normally work 7 AM to 11 AM six days a week in preparation for this event.

I am excited about doing this again this year if there is interest. Please let me know if there is interest. It is a long process to do this and I want to be sure there is enough interest to put the effort into the exchange. Giving me any suggests is always helpful and appreciated. Anyone wanting to participate in growing plants is welcome. This is not a commercial (money making) business endeavor. I just do it to keep my sanity, what little is left.. I hope I have the interest expressed enough to hold the event again this year.
