Dave, We would LOVE to take 1 if available & if you show me how to grow others by their cuttings = GREAT.BTW,We are trying to bring 500 very small white bags for seeds.By trying,I mean we have been told of a place in Dumaguete. If & that could be a BIG IF,our lead turns out to be good,do you think 500 is too many or 1k works better. As you all maybe/should/are laughing ur @ss off - SO AM I.Never in a million years would I ever think of buying "baggies" for seeds HAHA - Thom

Thom, I will hold one of the vines for you, and we can take some cutting from one of the mature vines I have here and show everyone how to plant them... of coarse like most things in life, it will depend on how you care for the new cutting when you take them home as to how well they will perform.... just like caring for a good lady. .
I am not sure how the many people will show up, or how many bags we need. I have about 100 clear bags from Lum Lum (or something like that who sells mostly cooking and baking goods in town) That would be a good source for additional bags. I will see how this week goes during the week and what type of response we will be getting.
Thanks for you offer to bring bags for the seeds. This event is surprising me with all the interest, it is definitely the right time of the year for the first exchange. Maybe we can do it periodically if the interest is there.
Later this week I will post direction to my house, and some photos of the front so people can find it. Currently there is road work in the area, and I will not know till the end of the week which roads may be open or the best way to come.

    Zucchini

    Mary,

There are very few seeds in a Zucchini packet for 75 P, and at 200 P a Kg at Robinsons, I am trying to grow them for myself, since I have always loved Zucchini. I do not know that they will be successful. Market conditions indicate there is either very little demand or very hard to grow. We will find out. I will hold 2 plants for you.

Most of you guys know these things already, but for the beginners out there a couple of tips on seeds.

    1. A plant's main purpose is to produce seed and when it has produced a seed it stops producing. To keep a plant producing continue pick the fruit before it fully matures. For instance, pick green beans before they fully ripen and usually the plant will continue producing. Okra will usually stop producing once one of it's fruits totally matures.

    2. Seeds are usually best kept in a paper bag in a freezer, with no light.

    3. Keep seeds from your best plants to get the best seeds.

I love fresh spinach but spinach seed will not germinate, (sprout), unless the soil temp is in the 40's F which is not going to happen in PI. To over come this obstacle, wet one or two paper towels, sprinkle seed on moist, not dripping wet, paper towels, seed not touching each other. Roll into loose cigar shape, put into plastic bag and put in refrigerator, not freezer. Every day open bag and either blow fresh air into bag or flap bag to exchange air. Close and put bag into frig until next day and repeat every day. It takes about seven days, when seeds have germinated plant and they will grow well. Of course the cooler the temps the better they will grow.
