I like the idea of solar and wind power also. When I do move to PI I will definitely look for a secondary power supply to use if I buy a home (my wife is a filipina with dual citizenship). This is an interesting web site that might provide motivation for those with some time on their hands who want cheap power.

    Hydroponics and Aquaponic Information

You may want to connect with Nice_sherwood as she did some experimentation on aquaponics. She can be found at "Paddy" at small market that she owns on the way into Bacong.
Graham Reidners, has three enclosed growing houses using Hydroponic in the south Bacong area, almost in San Miguel. He grows lettuce for the local markets. He wrote a book "Philippine Farming and Organics". I do not have direct contact information on him, but know how to get to his place. He is not on the Forum but use to be regular at old MacDonald breakfast group... many times at the bakery in the mall. If you want to see his place or meet him, just PM me and I will chase him down.
I hope this information is helpful.
I have personally never investigate either method of growing other than to talk about it, as I do not have the time to experiment presently.

Good to know. What did you seal your CHB tank with?

In certain parts of the U.S. they are required? Why? Not to just catch rainwater, but as a back-up in case of emergency in case the water is needed to fight a fire!

I have a friend who lives in Central California who was required by law to have a large tank (10,000 gallons?) as a back up. The city water line in his (rural) area is too small to feed a fire hydrant or fire truck and his well pump would not keep one supplied either, thus the requirement for the tank. It is on the highest point of his property and easily drains down hill to a spot where a fire truck could hook up to it. Who would have thought?

Garbonzo , I agree that to have the applicable batteries would be great, they are just really expensive , I posted on a different thread here a while ago asking about 'back to grid solar ' and if it was able to be done there , the system is hooked up and your meter runs backwards when you our producing from your solar system , therefore reducing or even getting rid of your bill to noreco , no-one replied so I guess I will inquire myself when I get there next week ,

    regards Tony

Good question , hope Robgie replies to this one , I have never inquired about a good waterproofing membrane application there , but have wondered if it was readily available

I have often wondered the same , I don't know if it is just because people get so used to their circumstances or what , the people behind us have guttering all round their house with downpipes running straight down into the ground O-| . A friend of mine in leyte had water supply issues so he fashioned an above ground tank out of hollow blocks adjacent to his outside tap , and just leaves the tap on , so when the community usage drops down , late at night , his tank fills up

Just wanted to show some pics of a self sufficient electricity set up that a good mate of mine has installed himself at his house , Trev is a bit of genius when it comes to electrical stuff , he actually gets paid from the electricity supply company for the power he puts back into the grid , he has set the whole system up for under $10,000 aud , the wind turbine was only $ 400 and is 30 amps , he imported everything himself directly from china ,

    Tony,

What is the total capacity of his system? I assume it is hybrid with both solar and wind tied together. The cost would make it worth it. I only spoke to 2 companies in the Philippines and the cost was over 5 time what he was able to do it for.

Shawn I thought you might be interested in this , I will get some more info from Trev , and maybe hook you up with his email address , this guy is a genius at this stuff , what the pics show is about half of what he has done for $10,000 aud , he knows the best panels to get for price etc. self regulating grid voltage and frequency 5 kw inverter $3,200 included in his total spend , he is suggesting a stand alone system there , not back to grid , because the batteries that are the best for this are actually made in the Philippines , he imports them to Australia , ac delco , .... Just spoke to Trev ,4.5 kw system , he said ok for you to email him ...................[/email] , he is one of my best mates so no worries for you to email him ( his wife is Filipina), the panels 130 watt panels , he paid $100 each for them , I will pm his email
