There is a kind of black ant that appears out of nowhere in minutes by the thousands, they have wide 1/2" tracks that they follow at high speeds, they look like water rivulets, they behave very purposefully and if you put an obstacle in their way the will quickly pass it and continue on... they usually disappear as fast as they appeared...

And the ants are almost gone, works better than other ant poisons I have used, and at p13 for a small packet and hey it’s better for the environment maybe I will get some brownie points from SM?
I got 1 2 3 powder as suggested by others....sprinkled atop the kitchen cabinets where they were coming down to from the ceiling, and they retreated immediately! This morning was the first morning I didn't have ants on my countertops in weeks!!
I asked the forum where I usually check about strange sites offering cure alls and many other interesting questions (but other people ask also a lot of crap) and I got some good replies, see for your self... Something of topic but interesting... In artisanal gold mining, the borax method is sometimes used as a substitute for toxic mercury in the gold extraction process. Borax was reportedly used by gold miners in parts of the Philippines in the 1900s.[2]" From the Wiki page: Borax - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Borax - Straight Dope Message Board
The best remedy for ants of all types is vinegar. Put about a 20% mix of vinegar in water and then mop or wipe any area that you don't want ants. Yes, it still works for a time after it dries. As most Filipinas clean their home every morning, this should not pose a problems. I would imagine a semi-weekly mopping is going to happen and that should do the trick. We mop our patio, walkways, and decking as well just to give the ants fair warning of what's coming. The vinegar smell disappears after it is dry, but it still keeps the ants away for a few more day. Truthfully, I haven't had an ant in my home for years... Other tricks....oil from any type of mint plant will keep fleas out. Soak clothesline rope in the oil and place it under the door thresholds...no more walk-ins...also cats and dogs love mint for a snack...by feeding them mint everyday, within a month or so, fleas won't jump on them...beside it makes their breath much better. Cinnamon will also keep ants away, as well as chalk, and basil.
