I'd heard, and read (here) the Smart Bro was a fairly decent way to go for laptop internet. Now though I'm reading their site and see that they charge time used in blocks of 30 minutes...meaning if you're online for 5 minutes, log off, and don't go back online until later that day, you're charged 30 minutes for that little bit you used earlier???

    REALLY?

You get 60 hours free with their 799 plan, but if they're going to charge like that I don't see the value.

most people here mean the 999 peso unlimited offer for "remote" areas without any other options. all other plans are a joke...

Please remember where you are. That's the deal. You can take it or not. If you are on for 30 seconds - that's a block. If you are on for thirty minutes and one second - that's two blocks. You do have a watch, right? Use it!

As I said in my initial post, I use mine as a bridge device. At home I have broadband. I usually carry my laptop with me and use WI-FI hotspots. Sometimes I need something else. At those times, Smart Bro does the job for me. I don't use it until / unless I have 30 minutes of transactions to accomplish. Otherwise I bite the bullet and pay the 10 pesos.

Is there something like a volume tariff as well? Let's say 1 GB for 300 Peso os similar. Or only time-blocks? Maybe from Globe?

I'm very much interested in 3G internet, as I had good experiences in other places. Only I prefer volume to time charges, as they are easier to control.

What the hell does that mean? You've fallen in line with the locals who never complain and things never change? You think the owners of Smart just don't know how to offer better service rates??

Where do you think you are?

    Aw c'mon surfin. When in Rome . . . .

I accept that there are many possibilities open to me when it comes to internet connectivity. Smart Bro is just one possibility. If it is not for you - choose something else, OK?

Take it easy dude! If you spend an extra P200 or so, (+/- 5 beers/month), you can get unlimited as Rhoody said. If you don't fancy Smart, then there's always Globe.
