Gorgeous Valencia expats head count; i was told 158 resident & longterm renters (3 years ago) and last year was more than 500. I guess it's getting more and more..,i saw them at the market with beers more than 5 and 5,at the tennis court as well, naspri bistro more or less 10pax/day. In my place,i have at least 10-14 daily.

Every time we go to Dumaguete it seems like there are a lot of expats/tourists hanging out, though I have never counted them. This comes from a guy living in Tanjay where you do not see too many expats and the ones I see seem to be doing their own thing. I fall into that as well as my days consist mostly around the house with family and pets; getting out is taking the dog for a walk or going into the market shopping for the day's dinner and lunch. It can be a quiet life that I think many folks get into.

After 7 years in the Philippines almost think many are just avoiding others to an extent. While plenty of good foreigners around whenever a group seems to come up there are some very loud, obnoxious, often drunk types who just p*ss off the blokes who want to have a chat and make a few friends. When I first arrived in Dumaguete from CDO back 4 1/2 years ago I saw the same thing with the regular gatherings at McDoc. A couple groups that seemed more invitation only and then the main group sitting in the center of old McDoc free to whoever sat down. But in that group there were a couple of good chaps but always a few who all they would talk about is thing new young honey they nailed the other night and believe it or not often shoving a naked picture of the girl around. In my times here I have met former CIA hitmen, lawyers who made millions but somehow lost it all through getting screwed over somehow, former mobsters, former free lance assassins, a couple of former generals/admirals (insert very high military rank here), and some other very odd to find people.

Lot of us I think are just settled down with our honey, maybe have a family/kids (1 here), not into drink fests, and just wanting some company can have a slightly intellectual conversation with.

I'd love to see a regular but regulated get together and meet a few more. But not into hanging out at a bar, talking about chicks and latest sex conquests, or someone's massively fabricated life story. Until then I'll just be hanging around keeping it peaceful other then when strangle the occasional suicidal driver.

OMG @ChMacQueen You have given us a bleak picture of McDoos. But you have also shared the truth about some of the ex-pats who make that place their home. I often wondered about those ex-pats there with rotten or green teeth? It is so cheap here to get good dental work I wonder why these guys can't try and look more presentable?

I actually met a guy there one day who was on a first name basis with the Queen of England. I met a guy who was supposed to be a Colonel in the US military when he was 17 years old! No, he wasn't on drugs! I guess some guys have to make up sh*t to look good because their lives back home are so bleak and miserable. They are not all bad there. Some are great guys and will go out of their way to help you. Especially with information about Duma. I just chalk it up to a little bit of Duma humor in the morning at McDoos lol.

Would be nice imo at least if we actually started an expat group meeting that was family friendly. Someplace NOT a bar (especially NOT a Bikini Bar which was were one I went to in CDO years ago was) and pref imo doesn't even serve alcohol which may be hard to come by. The sort of thing we could control to an extent, bring our gals and kids for those of us with them even for maybe weekly or bi-weekly meetings.

But important to note simply foreigner friendly as others may be like me with feeling odd to just see a couple blokes sitting at wherever chatting and go up and say "hi". Have met to many of the unfriendly type I suppose and half the time least 1 is drunk.

The no alcohol part is going to be next to impossible. Even if you did it at a resort they will likely serve alcohol. I guess we could find an empty field out in the middle of nowhere.
[DOUBLEPOST=1435077330,1435077065][/DOUBLEPOST]BTW @ChMacQueen I would be interested in an expat group, I don't think you should restrict alcohol though (especially if you are going to have kids around....I don't have any and I'm more fond of drunks than I am children). Of course any meets should not have alcohol as the main attraction.
