 Tonight! I watched a very good, Sporting Football match, FC Barcelona v Arsenal. A good International League Champions League game. Full of International Players. Result, Arsenal 2 FCB 1. Good win for Arsenal BUT! it was a bad loose for FCB, they fielded, no less than 6 of the World cup winning Squad, WOW! Now what was even more Dubious, Arsenal, as usual fielded their normal International squad, OK! But, here we have an English Game, an English team, played in England, Highbury (Emirates) Stadium, The French manager managed to field 4 English (British) Players and only one was white.
I am in no way a racist at all BUT it does make you wonder just what is happening in the world to-day ? Well done ARSENAL

    Soccer/Football

:DFootball? Football is played in the U.S., soccer in the rest of the world. I suggest in order to once and for all "own" the sport called football that the Green Bay Packers would play Manu or Arsenal or Chelsea in a match where the first half would be American Football and the 2nd half would be soccer. The total score winner would then own the right to call their sport "Football". My guess, Green Bay 182, Manu (whoever) 3. LOL:D (Sorry Jack, couldn't resist)

    Correction!

Football is the official name for soccer. Soccer comes from association football. Only in the USA and canada do they say soccer.
The global name for football is of course football. The global name for american football is gridiron. Gridiron is a code of handball and not football.

Football is a sport where players control the ball with their feet and only football does this.

Football has been played for many centuries but had no official rules.

The british created rules for football in 1848. After that many codes of handball arose including rugger and gridiron, none of which are codes of football.

American Football was not invented. It evolved over a period of time, from 1874, for at over 30 years. Many people contributed to its development. Though Walter Camp is called the Father of American Football, this was because he promoted it and was prominent on rules committees in its early years, not because he invented it.

The game played by McGill and Harvard might not be recognized as football by a modern audience. For example, it did not permit forward passes, and did not have a line of scrimmage. These developed during the 1880s and 1890s. The flying wedge formation was introduced in 1892 and banned because it was deadly in 1894. But football remained so brutal that in Theodore Roosevelt (of all people) threatened to close it down unless rules supporting safety were adopted. The forward pass was one of the resulting improvements, and is so important to the modern game that it is hard to imagine football without it.
