I befriended a family of sisters and helped them and then all of a sudden they split. Their 14 year old brother was left behind. He didnt even know his sisters were leaving, he just came home to find himself abandoned, furniture and sisters GONE. Surpisingly this family of sisters were themselves abandoned by their father after their mother died.

Anyway, I have been helping the boy as best I can (food and such)but I was wondering if there was any agency in Dumaguete I could talk to about his situation. He would be in the 4th grade if he went back to school but he doesnt want that. He has no skills for a job, maybe he could be a helper at most. Anyone got a job for this kid?? He's a nice boy.

Any suggestions out there? It just breaks my heart the way SOME filipinos abandon their family members. I know that filipinos have a reputation for being good family people but these sisters really broke that theory to hell!

    Welcome to the Philippines.
You could try the DSWD they're paid to look after the 'waifs & strays'.
When you've lived here long enough, you'll find that your personal experience is not that rare.
We supposed to live in a 'child-friendly' province, yeah sure, who from city hall or the capitol, is checking on on all the kids that are roaming the streets all day or under age girls and boys selling peanuts at night?
Fact of life here...kinda got to live with it, finance your 'adopted son' or cast him out, government doesn't care, sorry they're too busy stealing money.:(
