Good thing no foreigner was sitting on the side of the road when that happened,, he would have been blamed for causing a distraction and would have been thrown in jail and had to pay for all...The idiots who described the accident in the press seemed to get a bit messed up with what is obviously and head on collision.. the guy on the bike had no where to go so tried to take the ditch on the left hand side of the road but came up a little short and nailed the bus.. I bet he didn't have a headlight either..or a license or registration or insurance. One less idiot on the road..
I have actually seen that happen as well. Foreigner stops to help truck vs motorcycle accident, police show up and detain foreigner and accuse him of being the truck driver. Filipino truck driver sat back and let it happen. Witnesses free the foreigner. I tried to tell the police he wasn't driving but they told me to p*ss off. Silly this place can be.
One rule to follow here is never stop for anything,we saw a bad on zambongita a few months ago but decided not to stop even though my conscience said stop and help,it's just not worth the risk. And who is to blame for this situation, only themselves! Trust no one.
hemmm Larry I won’t take your bait, re (could be done in Aussie land) but if, I say if, the m/cycle stopped in front of the said bus and the bus was going say 60 - 80ks plus then the same outcome could be achieved .
tell me about it. when we were still living in Cebu, I was driving in mandaue to visit my family when the motorbike infront me had a head on collision with a car when the bike driver was turning right. he went straight onto the car that was busy talking on the phone! the guy was already on the ground and was calling out for help, no one seemed to help and I knew ill be in deep sh*t if I will because ive already been warned that you can get into serious trouble for being a good Samaritan in Philippines. but I followed my conscience, put the bike driver in my car since no one ever cared to call an ambulance, left a note that ill take him to chonghua hospital because I know he needed immediate care and going to Vicente sotto a pulic hospital he will surely end up dead and ill be in more trouble! so I did the right thing, they took him straight away. the police rang me and asked where I am, came to the hospital and asked me to come to the station. by the way, the car driver took off after I took off so no one there at the crime scene except for the wrecked bike. cut the story short, they made me responsible for the accident and reckon that I should have left the guy there for their investigation? and told me I put the investigation on jeopardy? it was ridiculous! I would have spent a night in jail if it wasn't because of connections. a relative is a mr. big guy in both army and police department and came to help me out, they got a big serve from them and i bluff by telling them ill sue their asses over putting me in public humiliation because they tried to arrest me at the hospital! ( this is after they didn't want to take my license because i showed them an Australian license and said i shouldn't be driving) too much bs. at the end of the day, they ended up paying the hospital bills and that's a lesson learnt for me but doing it again? depends on the situation.LOL
Exactly, really kind of child's play to argue it here since we did not see it. That being said, obviously this is not the USA, but in the US the guy who is doing the passing has the responsibility to ensure that he/she can pass safely and you cannot pass legally on hills, corners, or without adequate room. Murdercycle (sic) drivers have extra responsibility for cautious driving which they often do not exercise. I grew up with motorcycles in our family and I worked with doctors who attended ICU's and brain damage units who always advised me not to drive motorcycles even where there are sane rules. Here the risk is multiplied since there are no rules.

This is most probably the correct story, also the only one that makes sense... And, yes, three persons on a bike is illegal and the only reason way Ceres pays the burial costs is that they have the money...
