I asked the guy at Sizzlers if it was him and there was a long pause before he answered "no". Stupid c&*=. He still swears he was special forces and a current contractor (apparently contracted to be a bouncer at a local bar for less than minimum wage). Asked to see his DD214 (discharge papers) and his LOA (letter of authorization to work as a contractor) and met with further long pauses.

Why do guys insist on talking bulls*#t about their service record? You served your country, I give respect for that regardless of the job you worked while doing it. Back it up or shut it up.

Be ware of Change of Address

I went to an SSA outreach in Cebu quite a while ago. I went the second day, and the wait for service was very reasonable on the second day. I would suggest considering the second day, except in Dumaguete if the location is easy to get to then try the first day, or even later in the first day if the lines are long.

During my meeting with SSA, I was asked when I planned to go back to the US, when I said I did not know it was suggested I do a change of address. So we filled out the paper work, and I signed it.. At that point it was announced that since I had previously been a California resident, but was not one any longer, I would be paying the approximately $150 USD that Calfornia State had been paying for part of my medicare. I did not feel very good about that after the fact announcement. Secondly at one point of time my SSA payments stopped. When I contacted SSA in Manila, I was told that they had mailed me a questionnaire and I had not returned it so they stopped payments. That my be reasonable, but when has anyone in Dumaguete received a piece of mail here. So that little change of address cost me $150 +/- a month, and a dlay in my payments for ab out 40 days. Luckily the lady in Manila emailed it to me and everything was fixed very professionally to my surprise. They said I could not change my address back to California.

My suggestion would be that you not change your mailing address, or even discuss the issue.

I just got my S.S. form to fill out and mail back. it took just over 2 months for me to get it from the U.S.. The P.O. here said the guy that used to deliver to our house died a few months back, so the new guy is sort of slow and we should check up-stairs at the P.O. for our mail or get a P.O. box. I get one piece of mail a year from the U.S., so I don't think I need a P.O. box. Hopefully the new delivery guy won't croak before next years mail is delivered.
