I use to experience TIA's or mini-strokes and thought it was just stress or eye strain. My vision would become blurred and unable to focus. The tell tale sign for me was if my tongue would tingle at the same time, usually just on one side of the tongue. I would do deep breathing, thru the nostrils and out of the mouth. Stay out of bright light for the time being and eventually it would subside. For me they come and go less frequently now than a few years ago. My good cholesterol is high/bad is low. I have been on bp meds for years. Walk each morning and restrict salt, use coconut oil when cooking....albeit I still continue to smoke(something aking Asawa hates). Not proud of it just the facts.
Tony, good question on the minor stroke. I was having bad headaches on the back of my head for a couple of weeks which I attributed to bone spurs in my neck. One day I was outside my compound walking my dog for his noon business when I suddenly lost my balance and almost fell down. I immediately thought wtf was that? It couldn't be a stroke, I don't smoke, I exercise, I thought. I didn't want to go to the hosital, my boy was about to start preschool and I needed to drive him. However, what I did do, after reaching in the fridge for a cold bottle of wine and finding it warm with my left hand, then later finding it cold in my right hand, was to go and have a 'last will and testament' document made to protect our assets being held up in probate for a year. Then the headaches continued and my boy started school and I continued at the gym. Finally, D-Day came for me on a Sunday. A stroke is bad guys, learn from my mistakes.
Pat...we enjoyed meeting you the other day and I will take you up on your offer to check out you place; best wishes on a full recovery, you seem to be a very strong person and if anyone can do it, it would be you. Shawn
Tom, When I went to the UK for my Check up, my Cardio Consultant told me the worst thing I could do is to stop Smoking, at my age (Then 64) it would just have very little if any effect on my health or Condition. Reduce it by all means. I did try and Stop against his advice but man I suffered like you would not understand. I cut it in half that year and now down to 1/4. With this and my 2 bottles a day of San Miguel I feel Fine. I have a few more of both when I get out once in a while. I still have a little problem with the Meds and seem to need to change them once in a while but in the main, I Was very Lucky with my Stroke, that's why my hat goes of the Pat.
That's the Best Medical Advice I've gotten in a very long time Tito Jack. I have had a D.O. for about 15yrs and all he says is "Whatever your doing, just keep doing it" I pay my co-pay untill the next visit. I get better attention from my Chinese Acupuncturist in China Town Manila. He used to have a very nice office in Makati and then something happened and we found him in his current "Office", a long walk down a side alley, up a flight of stairs thru someone's living quarters. I thought I was going for an abortion.
Well I can't answer for any of our others Stroke Surviving members but.. This so very changeable weather is playing me up no end. Every day seems a struggle and I am one of the very lucky ones. I am so lethargic, Sluggish and most days have absolutely no Energy at all. Sleep is so spasmodic that I may as well stay up all night, Then it will be so hot to sleep in the day and of course, very Costly to run A/C and or fans. Talking to some that are ultra healthy it is not just me. At First I thought maybe the heavy medications had a lot to do with it but it seems again, those not on meds are suffering also. In the UK we used to say, lets have a Good Storm and get the Weather sorted. Of course that is not the thing to wish for here just now but.......... how is everyone else coping. Anyone got a magical Solution or is this going to be a grin and bear it situation? Luckily it has not stopped me taking my much needed exercise but I sure do feel Crap after JP:oops:
Jack, I have to run the aircon to sleep at night, even though I can't afford it. Still, it is about a 20 min. sleep, 40 min. awake throughout the night. Coconut oil, wine, and a little lovin makes it work as good as it can. The meds cause frequent peeing during the night. Glad you are doing your exercise, I feel so much better after a workout and/or a wobbly walk. As they say, considering the alternative..... Btw, we need to meet up for a Christmas cheer!
