This is slightly false as there are about 287 countries in the world (the last time I looked!) and many, including those none of us would voluntarily reside in (e.g. Syria, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan) are not on that list due to lack of data. The Philippines is low in the list because of its proneness to natural disasters - so children born in the Philippines have that as part of their lives whether they are born to pure Filipino parents or are ethnically mixed.

No. There might be 287 nations that consider themselves "countries" but their opinions on that doesn't matter unless other legitimate countries recognize their claim.

I believe the number of real countries is more around 195.

They are low on the list for more than just natural disasters. You have to rank pretty low in every category to get to the bottom of that list.

I think the best thing you can do is to get your child a passport to your home country while you are still around. This will give them options later.
Setting up a trust fund in your home country for the child ( and mother if you want) . this fund would be invested and paid out in annual increments to them. Personally i would not try to do this in the Philippines as their are too many crooked lawyers here.

For me, I would take the Philippines over all but the top ten listed countries, assuming I could afford to live in them.
