We are preparing to move to the P.I. and was told by a tach at JVC that our JVC # HD-56G786 T.V. will not work there because the signal is "ATSC" in the PI and the signal here in the U.S. is "NTSC". Can any of you tell me if that is true? Will my TV not work over there evan if we get the right elect supply?
    Thanks for your input.

Grandpainak, I don't know about that, but I've sent TV's purchased here in the US, to my family in Dumaguere, as far as I'm concerned, the TV works perfectly. But don't take my words, that was five years ago when we shipped the TV and we also brought one with us. All they did is used a converter box to convert the 115 to 220. Good luck.

That is why I ask! This 56" Hi-Deaf is real expensive sure would hate to sell it for centavos on the buck. Only to buy another one over there. Thanks for you help, Swane.

Adding my two cents.......I have known of many American filipinos that have shipped fridges, Tv...all kinds of appliances to their retirement home in the PHL and used either a convertor or had two different Volts on their outlets in their house. I also bought a used Japanese TV which came with a convertor and it worked fine the whole time I was there. I also used the convertor box to plug in curling irons and other things I bought at the US Surplus store. I never had any problems.

Thanks problem solved. tach at JVC did not know what he was talking about, he probably was pissed at his boss. Anyway I found out that the TV will work over there just fine.

Have any of the cable services in the Philippines gone digital yet? I haven't heard of any, and I believe they are still on analog....same with the free-to-air stations...but correct me if there is any good news in this area..

We've only had it in Oz for a couple years...The free-to-air stations have both High Definition along with the analog on different frequencies....the cable/satellite TV is digital - but it's Standard Definition for now....

A high-def TV in the Philippines may be overkill for quite a while yet...

    garbonzo,
I can get a signal "splitter/doubler" that will make the Standard Definition look like high-def.
