Tourist police sweeped through the Nana and Pratunam areas last night to target “colored people,” detaining 72 clearly guilty of having black skin for drug tests.

Saying they were acting on complaints of black people abusing drugs and “deceiving Thai women,” over 80 police officers were sent to hunt down and round up the darker-skinned people found around Sukhumvit sois 3 to 13, Petchaburi and Ratchaprarop roads.

So you think the Philippines discriminates eh? Thailand just rounds up people of specific race and forces a drug test on them then deports them. d*mn.

Misread your post, thought it had "police" in there. You really have never been discriminated against in the Philippines because of the color of your skin or your nationality? Not once have you had a price or public transportation fare quoted at a price that a local would laugh at? Lucky man.

It does go deeper than getting charged 2, 3, 10 or even 100 times the normal prices. The Philippines (along with most of Asia) has a vary racist culture. There have been expats arrested just because they were white and fit the description of being white (coming from a child witness....who changed her description several times to fit the person they just happen to have in custody). It doesn't take much of an imagination to see the Philippines doing the very same thing that Thailand just did to blacks. There are some powerful racist voices even in Dumaguete who would love nothing more than to see each and every one of us locked up and/or deported. Right now they don't a popular opinion, but let that one wrong incident happen involving the wrong people and the majority will be going out on a witch hunt to look for someone to place the blame on. I won't name any names but we all know they are there. You don't have to search too hard in this forum to find examples of these racist personalities.
