I am finely going to start the around the Island of Negros road trip. I have been dreaming of this trip for a lot of years and now it is finely ON. Starting out in the morning from Dumaguete City headed south. I’m thinking that I should be able to make Kabankalan by tomorrow night, and Bacolod by Tuesday night. I do my best to keep you up to date with my travels.
Bon voyage and safe cycling! I am positively green with considerable envy. I hope that you have given yourself considerable extra time to savour the distractions which will likely present themselves along the way.
Left Dumaguete at 0535am and rolled into bacolod at 03:30 this afternoon. Was over cast all the way and I still got a nasty sunburn. The Suzuki 125 made it here with a 1/4 tank of petrol remaining and that included a round trip to Sambo last night. I'm hold up in the Belle's pension House for the night. Now I'm off to fill my tank. The guy that told me it takes 4 days to drive around this island for got to tell me that he was stopping at every beer joint along the way. I stopped twice to stretch my legs 15 min. each and 30 min. for lunch. I do believe I made the right choice in buying the Suzuki 125 Thunder. I got over 900 k on it and it is preforming very well. The tack will red line at 10,000 rpm. @ 120 KPH. That little Suzuki is as hot as my two sunburned arms. I'm out hunting some chow.
Well done, Jim. Thanks for the update. Hope that you are able to continue it as you go along. Are you staying any time in Bacolod or pressing forward? I'm really partial to Silay and there are a couple of interesting sights to see within a few feet of the highway. Plus some wonderful places to eat. Don't miss the bakery on the west side of the highway there. Fair skies to you. Fitzz
I took the southern way to get here so I already went through Silay. Got lost there and ended up in two different barios went through the market twice before finely getting back on track. I got to Bacolod 1 and 1/2 days before I though I wood so I am going to take a side trip to Kalibo Aklan.
Uh, Jim? You must be using your map upside down. Maybe it's me! Je! Je! Silay is North of Bacolod, near the new airport. Please tell me more about this "southern route" you took. I'm curious. Perchance is it the Northern route? Kalibo Aklan puts you on a different island, altogether. I'll just shut up now and let you tell me where I went wrong in trying to follow your most interesting tale.
Wow, you do it fast Jim ! Did you forget the camera to make pics on your way or do you not regard that as stopping time Good to hear the weather was good. Enjoy the next part.
