The Draft, even Selective Service was, and is, wrong. I think the logistics and administration of having the VA operate in foreign countries though is next to impossible. It doesn't work that great in the US a lot of the time, so trying to monitor the actions of hospitals and doctors that operate under different laws and jurisdictions would be impossible.

But you did have a choice, to join knowing that you might be sent to fight, or not join in the first place.

Not at all as its completely different in all regards besides the words *foreign country*. Now the government could offer a reimbursement program for our out of pocket medical costs but then their is no way for them to really check if its real or fraud. But the Manila VA's mission has always been care for Filipino's who assisted and worked with the US armed forces. They went beyond to do more for us veterans who retired over here but our numbers have grown so high its become past their capacity to keep taking care of us like they have in the past.

But still our VA healthcare isn't owed to us wherever we decide to move to just because its more convenient for you. Its available in the US and all US territories and anything beyond that is a gift that may be taken away at any time. Its time to stop feeling entitled to whatever suits you and man up and accept it.

Lastly the nonsense comments dragging in MIA's and the Philippines as a R&R rest stop is nonsense dragging that into this conversation. Your logic is non-existent as you look to connect things through the very loosest grounds simply because you have no rational idea or logistic knowledge on such things your asking.

Double lastly as logic test. How COULD the VA provide healthcare to veterans who move abroad wherever they live while ensuring fraud and abuse is kept very low? Lets see if you can come up with some magical marvelous idea that wouldn't just be another huge and utter disaster.

One could argue that it is a responsibility of citizens to serve in the military when your country needs it, so it was their duty. However, one could also argue that the government really didn't need to resort to the draft for Vietnam. But you could then argue that you have the government and politics you deserve and are subject it due to your p*ss poor, and usually uneducated, voting habits (or lack there of). You don't have to be an American, if you don't like the politics and are unable/unwilling/incapable of changing how things work or don't like democracy then you can gain citizenship elsewhere.

I'm a disabled veteran myself. However as such I don't see why its the job of our government to follow us around the world to provide us with medical care be it medicare or VA care. They have no idea or control on if the care was proper, if being abused or misused, or if the care is even really for us or just being billed claiming so. As also stated the VA here is meant for Filipino's entitled to VA care and we are just an extra they will try and help but we aren't their mission here.

No one forced us to move here or any other place outside of the US

Now if we wanted to discuss about how as disabled veterans we don't get paid enough for cost of living in the US unless we're just going to rot at home because we can't afford crap that is a more valid discussion in my opinion. But outside of the US they don't owe us anything beyond our pension/compensation.
