Went to Adamo the other day, had the crispy pork, meh, it was okay, not very tender and a lot of fat; chicken with gravy, meh, it was okay; and short ribs plate (supposed to be their specialty) was nothing at all like the pictures I saw, just a few very thin strips of meat, it was tender and flavorful but really not even enough there to call it an appetizer. I was going to think about desert, but we were just finishing eating with all the food still on our table, and they came with the check, so I thought, hmmm I guess they want us to leave.

About 3k excluding drinks if I remember correctly.

Visited Arbour on Hibbard Avenue twice in the last two weeks, both times very pleased with the food.

Dang. $60 for two appetizers and a steak. Better be better than a Texas Roadhouse. Hard to imagine such a place exists in the Philippines.

Ichiraku makes some decent ramen. P180 to P400 (through Grab, ~15% cheaper if you order directly from them) depending on size and add-ons. Travels well.

Again, not all that familiar with what authentic Japanese ramen tastes like but I enjoy what they are serving. The black garlic one is a bit much for my liking though.

For Mexican, Señorita's--where is it now? Still at the airport, or back on the South Highway?

Went a month ago or so, still at airport, best tex Mex in town. Easy parking, hope it hasn't moved. As I've posted before, long time ago when we first went, "the owner is from the US ??" "No Sir, he's from Texas.."

Added note, after staying away from Don Atilano for years due to terrible timing in the kitchen, went last weekend, mostly local clientele. Great food, main courses arrived together and AFTER the appetizer. Back on the list, can get chicken adobo at special request (from old menu)..

Also tried Jan's new Arbour, also on Hibbard. Great, highly recommended.

Years ago Pasta King used to be my favorite restaurant in town. For me, not the same now. Penne Basciola was one of my most-liked dishes. Thankfully, my wife recently taught herself how to make the sauce and I have it frequently.

Had a decent "Brazilian imported" steak (200 grams, no idea what cut it was) with mashed potatoes at Lavanya Beach Resort for P880. I guess it was about what you would expect taste wise from an $18 steak in the US and they got the medium rare right, though I think it is on the small side (I'd expect almost double the size in the US for that price...but I'm not in the US, so maybe it was a decent price?).

Also had a hummus chicken pita sandwich (pita bread was out of stock but they had homemade bread available) that was also decent but would have been better with the pita bread. I think that was something like P300.

SO had the beef soup. Her comment when asked was, "it's beef soup" so I guess no false advertising there. Fish and seafood were out of stock, which was the first and second choices for her....welcome to the Philippines. Easier to ask what is available and go from there.

The amenities were lacking but they didn't charge me for using them, so fair enough. Nice large sandy beach but lots of rocks under the water. I have zero interest in stepping on sea urchins (or whatever else is hiding in those rocks) so I avoided the ocean.

Was it something special? I didn't write my mom about it. Will I return? Most likely.

Without a doubt, Arbour is maybe the best restaurant overall that I have come across in my 6 years living here. The food is unbelievably delicious and the service is equal to western standards of the best restaurants. Rather than offering a huge menu of dishes, Jan's menu is smaller than the usual Dumaguete eatery but the dishes are exquisitely prepared, presented and served (I have been there and enjoyed several already). Jan and his wife (Jennifer, I think) do a tremendous job with this restaurant and they are both very friendly and approachable. I wish them great success and I am resigned to the fact that it will get very popular very fast and I will soon need to get reservations to get near the place.

(It's on Hibbard Ave across from the ABC Elementary school.)

I loved Pasta King and worried that the move to Bantayan would degrade the experience. Sorry to say, I was right and I have taken them off my list of places to eat when my tablemate was served food that was clearly adulterated. Not even an apology until we demanded to see the manager on duty. She seemed a bit inconvenienced to be called out of her office to deal with a lowly customer. She did apologize but it was far from heartfelt. Oh how the mighty have fallen.
