Has there been a thread on TRAIN (Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion)?

What’s in the approved TRAIN Tax Reform of 2018?

This started in January and has considerable implications for taxes on new cars (already featured in another thread last year) plus fuel (which will have knock on effects on most other prices, including food). Not a big problem for most foreigners I think, but another hit for those living in poverty perhaps.

I think thats the plan. Gotta keep the poor people from buying cars and driving them. There are getting to be so many of them on the streets that the traffic is getting too much for the rich. (Sarcasm)

A friend of mine bought a new pickup last week and i was surprised that the new train tax did not include pickups. The reason is that pickups are not classed as a luxury and classed as a utility needed for business.
Im sure we will now see alot more new pickups on the road.

Quite some interesting things in there.

Taxing Petrol, coal, tobacco, sugar, cars certainly makes sense from an "influence consumer behavior" POV. Though the pickup exemption is questionable at least. I'm already sick of those orange pimped Rangers and the like, can only get worse. 6% tax on any gift or donation over 250k regardless of relationship between the parties sounds harsh. Exception on the sugar tax for 3-in-1 coffee WTF?!
