My partener had a run in with a guy that took her from hypermart to a petrol stn then told her he dId not want to take her to phill health as was agreed on for 20 peso before theystarted . she reported him and he was called in to the transport office she also had to attend . the man lissened to her story and told the driver it was a National offence to put someone off in mid journey and said he would get 2000p find and 30 days suspension . my partener felt sorry for him and droped the charges, he got 400p find and had to attend a day seminer . Why i tell this story is the officer told me and my partener that they know many drivers are bad but no one bothers to complain so their hands are tyed. he went on to say a trip in the city limits is 9 peso thats for all peddy cabs with a 4 diget number. they are not allowed to refuse a fare.and not allowed to demand a higher price. now i call out their number and say see you at the seminer lol it works . I always pay double or more as i take up a lot of the seat and not many will hop in with an expat..moral to the story speak up if your not happy

Right, like the extra money (from what little there is from operating a trike) would ever go into maintaining the things. If it moves under its own power then it ain't broke. Doesn't matter how much black soot is coming out the rear.

I think it should stay as is and let drivers make a bit more. At the snail pace of change here by the time it is lowered gas prices will be up again. I always pay 10-20 depending on how far and good driver. Why is it so little to go to town but alot to go out from town back home? Always a negotiation to go home. Walking has become a nice hobby.

The 6.5 rate may be low, but they are only paid that little because there are too many trikes on the streets. Looks like the strike, reduced the number to about 500 trikes (80% reductions) without too much a catastrophe on the riding public and I am pretty sure that those who got rides were happy to pay an amount higher than 6.5 P. Just cut the amount of trikes, and the fees will adjust appropriately and not have to have an artificial lid on them. After a little bit of bitching everyone will adjust and be happy... that is how it seems to work here in the Philippines.

Does anything every change because of laws here? Were there many people wearing helmets in town now because of the helmet law?

Take a look next time you take a trip to mabinay, the road from bais up the windy road to the top at the jeepneys how overloaded they are. I couldn't believe my eyes when I first saw this, there was as many people on the roof as there was inside. Have also seen a few of them go off the road up there and down into the ravine if a tree does not stop them, public transport just isn't safe here along with the lack of maintenance.

This is their chance to solve the trike problem. Ban them outright or restrict them only to side streets. Absolutely no trikes on the national highway (because that is already the law). Force jeepney routes between the towns and main roads through town.

I know it won't happen, but one can dream.

I just read the fares are to stay at 6.50p its seems a big drop from 8.5p but some power to be must have factored in the drop in the price of fuel and came up with with that figure. there seems to many of them on the road maybe a 2 number system with some licensed to run on the hwy. some side street. Or would a odds n even number system work alternate days working . Any how this will all blow over and we will go back to more of the same

After talking to several people who have been in town today and seeing the local news so many people have said how peaceful it was and this is how it should be. There are plenty jeeps running around to sort the people and where they want to go. Even if they cut the numbers in half it would be so much better.
As it stands now there are far too many trikes here who just aimlessly drive about looking for fares not caring who they cut infront of.
I know it will never change here but today was just an example of what it could be, people get to where they need to which ever way. I just hope one day people will realise how nice the town could be without those bloody trikes.
