Another thing that has been a nice surprise moving down to Dumaguete is the trikes here are cheap and very big, we had the whole clan - The Marine, The outcast and myself in a trike the other day going from the Buglasan Fiesta to Coco Amigos.

Arriving at Coco Amigos I ask the driver "how much" and he replies P20 for the 3 of us.

I am not against tricycles operating around the city .A small compact size city as Dumaguete with narrow roads ,trikes suit better than a taxi , even bicycles will do if only there are cycle paths around giving cyclist safer deal .As of now cycling around Dumaguete come as big hazard because of chaotic traffic with all types of motorists and pedistrians with no fear .Tricycles in my opinion give Dumaguete its own character,a city operated by with trikes is quite unique of its own , I feel better they should remain. Otherwise to operate more on taxis means there’s need of bigger wider roads, but not in the center of dumaguete .

Many complaints are grounded on high pollution levels these trikes contribute and some find them unpleasant. But imagine if they are all taxis roaming the narrow roads ,can’t win .Wish the local government should have put more control on the number of trikes circulating in dumaguete roads.Perhaps taking the environmentally friendly path as criteria baseline for some ordinance ,and get rid of the old rickity ,less energy efficient, smoke belching, noisy trikes. While only allowing the low level carbon emitting ones to operate around the city ,might be hard to come by for many operators, but is a lot better .This means every trikes should pass through kind of like MOT and have specific testing of their amount of emission. .If they fail, they can't operate ,can be simple as that. Perhaps 60 % of these trikes you see now will go ,Dumaguete will be back to the old days when tricycles are lesser in number but just enough ,while encouraging zero emission mode of transport which had been tried and tested feasible...the tartanillas (horse carraige) or pedal tricycles for short distances .This isn't going back to the dark ages ,but helping Dumaguete environmentally .

Make two stroke engines illegal for on-road vehicles to start with.

That's right jimeve ,people should walk .People can walk from end to end of Perdices and of boulevard area. They should have the city center pedistrianized and it will look a lot and feel better without the chaos of traffic and the fumes.

Hey there pickled_newt. You seem to have similar views with my husband. City center should be pedistrianized especially the boulevard. More people can enjoy daily life without inhaling fumes and easy access to shops and bars and restaurants. Wish the government would do something about this chaotic traffic in the city.

I have noticed as well that Perdices Street and city center has PEDESTRIAN LANES, but as pedestrians, we were deprived or cut short of our rights to use it as we were shouted by these (not all) pedi drivers to move our @ss quick. Because of the absence of traffic lights, every time you cross the roads, you have to make a sign to let them know (like a traffic man).

But there is still more to Dumaguete than it's fumes, chaotic traffic and it's absence of parking spaces. Love the place and definitely we will be spending the rest of our lives just chilling out... A quality life...

Agree, I was fuming one time when a tricycle nearly run me over in the pedestrian lane.Madness! It seem many are ignorant with giving way to pedestrians when crossing these lanes.Look at the market area as an example . But the problem is people put up with it for a long time and never complain or didn't know what is wrong or right.I did actually stop the tricycle ,and give him a quick word. If dumaguete wants to claim the best for the city ,they need an overhaul in their system.
