    Try to follow along..

TV shows are on the air to earn money from advertising

Advertisers here then would benefit from foreigners watching a news program that had English subtitles, instead of them changing the channel

and one of my b*tch`s is, foreigners coming into the country I was from and wanting special treatments, road signs in mexican ( spanish)? ring a bell? or, menu`s, news prints, workplace sing`s in their language, etc.etc. I had to learn some of several languages just to instruct employees in the simplest of work details or stop another from working just to translate.. Had men from all over the world, learned some russian, spanish, never could get the any of the vietnamese but had several working. Even had to learn some sign languages for the 3 deaf men I had working. Point is, at the end of the day, still the same, foreigner wanting special treatments. Maybe try cable tv. Most foreigners have it, and maybe its why they direct their advertising peso`s towards that, not a local country news. Bigger audience than a local show if on cable. locals and expats alike see their commercials.
maybe the adertisers dont think many tourist and (english speaking) expats are watching the local channels so much to justify spending on it., and waiting to see the shampoo, kotex, car, vitamin, etc etc. commercials. Even though most seem to be in english.
But, hey good luck if you can get any to do it, I would once a week maybe wacth and read also. Just as of now, its easier to go to their web site and read the local news.

The news Chanel has a website for comments, you have to join and give your email address, maybe try that site to post, as it is read by their staff.

There were almost 4 million tourists entering the Philippines last year. I'll bet 99% of them speak English.

Hardly a small insignificant number desiring special treatment. Especially when English is taught at schools here.

There are countries that do endeavor make things comfortable for tourists.

Its not a special treatment request.

And as a lure to get those tourists, the Philippines advertises itself as "the third largest English speaking country in the world".

For tourists it is better not to understand and see what is going on in local TV-news, (unless they are into blood-feasts and splatter movies). Hotels and Resorts have international news in many languages. I had in 10 years working in the tourism sector in the Philippines no single guest asking for local news in English.

And out of 4 million, how many are staying in resorts and hotel with cable and internet? Most I would think.
Out of 4 million how many will run out and buy whats advertised on local stations directed to those few 4 M who would be reading the news. How many tourist cant wait to get back to their room to watch, urr ( read subtitles ) of the news. And I have yet to see a locally produced movie I need to read.
But wish you good luck.Maybe its better to tell it to the advertisers since they are the ones paying , right?

The current colonizers control the language

English is still an official language, but that was 20 years ago. The Tagalistas in Manila decided that nationalism was more important than jobs and their language most patriotic. It's cultural genocide for all others in this country.

It's getting worse. Our girl's Social Studies class at Silliman went from English last year to Tagalog, we moved her to Simon which resisted DepEd's directive.

Tourists may not care but after years here I'm most interested in the local news. Talk TV, Channel 5 on Sky does the evening news in English. I also watch some of the Manila 'Taglish' news and have picked up a few words.

You really don't need to speak any tagalog to understand the news here.
What I see, and deduce, from the filipino news. Tell me if I'm wrong:

Corruption is written as "corruption" on the screen

X president shown in hospital, next image court house (obviously she's playing sick to try to get out of the country and/or stall)

Filipino military running around jungles with guns, next image of dead people (probably been some killin' of the Muslims or NPA)

White guy seen holding sign surrounded by filipino's with guns (vacation to Mindanao gone wrong)

Manny getting ready for a fight. (assuming he's going to fight that guy with the Mexican name for the 4th time)

People with signs protesting (i likely don't care why)

Some old woman crying on tv (probably a witness to a crime or complaining that she is a street sweeper with 16 kids and she can't understand why she is poor or someone in her family died in an accident or some other travesty)
