“Taiwan today announced no new cases of coronavirus, meaning the country has gone 28 days without reporting a single local transmission.”

    ...and never a lockdown.

There are some major differences between countries like Taiwan, South Korea, Hong Kong and Singapore and the rest of the world. Their people are much more homogeneous when it comes to culture, demographics, education level, access to proper medical care and socioeconomic statuses. That is absolutely not the case in most Western and developing countries. What worked for them just isn't possible in most of the world.

It also seems like a bit of cherry picking as some of the countries that didn't go the quarantine route are currently seeing spikes in infection rates.

People pay attention to what is posted. Let's stop the antagonizing posts. (That is not just directed at you. Moderating is getting a bit tiresome.)

You're probably right. I certainly won't be doing any protesting. I don't want to go swimming badly enough to get arrested in my trunks and have my picture posted all over the place.

It is truly strange to be antagonistic towards those all of us are or will be someday.

For what it is worth, Korea did not and has not locked down. I was there for work and caught one of the last PAL flights out. People were sit down eating in restaurants and public transport and shops were operating.

What was interesting was that after downloading an app your mobile phone you received updates on the movement of positive testing people as well as assurances that the places they had visited, mostly clinics and pharmacies, had been disinfected.

In my opinion and that is all it is, an opinion, the Philippines, Europe and USA would never be able to follow the Korean method for either cultural or economic reasons. I must also admit I felt safer there than here even though they did not carry out the draconian measures that we are living under now in Luzon. There is a lot of blind panic among both local and expat community here.

Whilst I agree that some countries have been able to control this pandemic more efficiently, from what I have read, I would certainly say in the case of Expats in Philippines, far from panicking, quite a number are complaining of the lockdown.....but should not become complacent. just my two cents.

    I don't know.
True. They have not locked down their economy in a significant way.

Recently they closed some nightclubs and bars in Seoul because there was a super spreader.

"29-year-old man who tested positive for the virus after visiting five nightclubs and bars in the commercial district.

Overall, at least 54 cases have been linked to that outbreak including 43 nightclub patrons and another 11 people acquainted with the club goers. In response, Seoul closed bars and nightclubs this weekend as authorities worked to contain the outbreak."

    I disagree.

Politically speaking the South Koreans went about this through a popular election. This is why the population accepts these tactics that any other population would see as the government exerting more control. The quest for more control was through a popular election.

“The government has failed, and the people have lost their trust,” declared Moon Jae-in, the head of the opposition party during the MERS outbreak. The public approved of both the sentiment and its source. Two years later, Moon was elected president of South Korea.

The same thing will happen in the USA. Because the cost in Trillions will simply outweigh the cost of a little less freedom during a epidemic/pandemic.

The wife mentioned that the other day when she was downtown, that they were pulling over the bike riders with flip flops. I guess flip flops have caused the virus to spread a lot. It is all about power, but if and when this ends, some of those might want to watch their six. Filipinos are not known for forgive and forget.
