    Wife: Philippines born, but now a US citizen and in the Philippines on a US passport and a Balikbayan visa

    Me: US citizen and in the Philippines on a 13a visa (Permanent Resident Card)

    About a month ago, we took a 1 week vacation to Japan. My wife paid no departure tax fee at all when we left NAIA, but they made me pay 2,880 pesos prior to depature.

    What the hell is the deal with that? ..... Don't seem very fair at all

    Balikbayan = no travel tax
    Permanent resident = travel tax
    Sucks but that's the law.

    I guess we have to remember that the BB is issued by BI on behalf of the Tourist Board to encourage Filipino's back to their Home land so it won't do a lot of Good to be Charging them.
