US citizens adopt and get those children citizenship frequently. Acquiring U.S. Citizenship for your Child | Intercountry Adoption This doesn't really answer the question asked about social security benefits but it leads me to believe even more that once legal adoption and citizenship is complete that social security benefits become a very real possibility. The Child Citizenship Act is basically saying that, once legal adoption occurs, the US government sees that child the same as a child born to an American overseas. SSA says in their FAQs that: Who can get Social Security survivors benefits and how do I apply? Take what you want from "certain circumstances"....but I believe it just means that the parent needed to have "legal guardianship" of the child at the time of death and had met the requirements under the Child Citizenship Act. @yvonnecapunong
Thank you so much for the information! Well just wondering co'z when he filed his bankruptcy when he was still in US. The government send me a snail mail about it. Right now i am really not worried about it co'z we are not even married co'z he is not divorced . thank so much again for the information. Thank you so much! we will email William Stohlton co'z when he filed bankruptcy few years ago. He included the child on it. Thank you again !
That's a very odd situation you have there...makes me very suspicious of the guy's intentions. I would suggest to tread lightly and be very cautious about giving out you or your child's personal information to a married man that has yet to file for divorce and is going through a bankruptcy. You don't want to end up having a bunch of debt (new or old) being put under your name. Note: I'm not saying the guy is a scammer or anything like that....just that the situation sounds very dangerous and suspicious. I prefer to be with people that are single/legally divorced and free from major debts. Dating married men (or women) that has more debt than they can pay back is nothing but trouble, especially in the Philippines.
Definitely contact the U.S. Embassy. If there are legal adoption papers and the U.S. Embassy was notified at the time of the adoption, they MAY have a chance, however, I did find this on the Social Security.gov website: (Read 2nd sentence of first paragraph)
